I would recommend contacting Phat GT / Paul from street to track under commercial vendor sellers

If garrett is your taste? I would suggest a gt28 / gtx28 series turbo for your application

Manual / Auto?

There are many sellers on this forum that sell quality turbo sets for about the same price or cheaper, do your research and hunt around?

Good luck :)

I take it they are both different types of garret turbos??

Yeh sorry man. The gt30r or the 3071,3076 are the same turbo's just different specs. Gt35r, 3540,3545,3576 etc are the same turbo but different specs. The gt 4788 is f$&king massive turbo and would probably come on boost at about 6,000 rpm on a lib.

My brother has a SR20DET in a datsun 1600 ( 90k spent, seriously) with a forged and cammed etc motor with a gt3076 etc etc spec turbo and besides it being an absolute animal, it comes on full boost around 3ish thousand rpm. Now thats a 2.0 litre.

My choice when i do my turbo upgrade will be a GT35R, with external gate etc etc. The issue of lag, i believ, is no issue. Yes you wont get 15psi at just over 2,000 rpm like you get with the stock turbo once tuned on the 2.5 litre. But once it does come on boost you will have to peel your eye balls off the back window. My thoughts

So your GT35R when will that be hitting full boost??
As I dont want a overly huge turbo, I want one where it will hit Full boost around 2k-3k rpm

I wish I knew alot more the what I actually know..

If you want it to come on early you'll want a smaller one.

Maybe something like a gtx2863 or gtx2867.

[edit] Don't even bother trying to get something that comes on at 2000rpm. At least not at full boost. Realistically you should be aiming for 3000 - 3500 if you are after a turbo with a decently large push in the back.

Depends what your target power output is really. You have to weigh that up with how fast you want it to spool.

Yeah that makes sense, your right but I do want a fair but of push when it hits full boost and I am happy with the stock turbo how it kicks in at about 3k-3.5k rpm so I'd like to keep that about the same, just want more power output when necessary..

Also i know nothing about Air:Fuel ratio, as I'm looking on this site http://www.sonicperformance.com.au/home.php

and when I'm looking under the turbo section some come with a price and others give you a option of ratios

this just adds to my confusion, i have been looking in the GT30s sections as i dont want it hitting boost so quick so i don't think i want a gt28 but don't want it hitting boost at the 6k mark either so i think gt35s will be a little big....

correct me if I'm wrong I'm open to ANY ideas!!

It's all personal preference really and depends on what you are doing with the car (track, drags, 100% daily driver etc.).

I have been doing a little looking around (nothing in depth yet) and in my opinion, for me, I'm thinking gtx2867 or gtx3071 size-wise. Originally I was thinking 3071 but seeing as my current plans don't involve forged internals and high boost I'm thinking the 2867 would be a better fit.
The way I see it is if your engine is no up to dealing with the potential of a turbo you'll never see that potential, so you may as well get something that spools faster, that you can fully (or at least closer to fully) utilize.

Then down the line if I decide to do internals or break my engine and use it as an excuse for said internals I an just jump up to a bigger turbo and sell the old one.

Happy to hear critiques of my logic though as always.

I agree with staying away from gt35, unless you are building a stronger engine to crank up the boost.

its going to be 100% daily driver..

and the most i think my engine will get in regards to internals is bigger injectors, i don't want anything extreme like forged pistons etc

I'm just starting out with mods as i have only had this car for about 2-3mnths now, and I'm getting my 3" Xforce from the turbo back put on this friday, and a tune by MSR on the 27th..
but after that i was thinking of a bigger intercooler and turbo, inlet hose, new bilstien coil overs and brakes with a bit of air filter and air hose change outs, fuel filter, fuel pump

thats about it off the top of my head and as i said maybe injectors if need be

That's a pretty similar path to what I have planned (exhaust, intercooler, fuel system).

In addition to the forum I'm sure if you ask Michael for some input he could also give you some good info backed up by his experience.

really??

you were talking about the gt28's, will that give you a descent power boost and when would it hit full boost roughly??
