Going to be installing a Phat dump pipe and just doing some research on the heat shield. I understand the stock heat shield needs to be cut to fit and I have the option of getting an aftermarket SPT heat shield.

I was thinking about using just the SPT heat shield instead of cutting my stock one. This will be sufficient to protect the intercooler, but I was a little concerned about the nearby steering knuckle which I can't find much about. Being ceramic coated will it be a problem not having a heat shield around the dump pipe to protect the steering knuckle?

Or I could run both....

The stock heat shield can be cut neatly, I cut Hamish's when installing his dump pipe. I'm sure he would happily send you a photo if you like.

It doesn't make a great difference with or without the heat shield. There are alot of cars out there who have ditched the heat shields all together and don't have issues.

Phats dump pipes have heat shields on them already don't they? I've ditched my stock heat shield and nothing has blown up yet so I'm assuming everything in ok

Okay cool, might just ditch the stock heat shield and run the SPT, plus it looks pretty sexy too

Just saw this Daniel...

In my opinion painting the stock (cut) heat shield in hi temp gloss black and running the shiny SPT over the top 'looks' sexy. It also stops a tad more heat from getting to your top mount in my opinion. See how you go anyway, I dont think your engine will blow up either way...

The heat shield fitted to the dump pipe is on the cat.

The turbo heat shield needs to be trimmed and should be used to stop the heat soaking through your TMIC……..

Long term effects of heat will shorten the life of your hoses in and around that area.

Does the SPT one fit, I remember looking at them ages ago to replace my shield and can recall them not fitting Aussie models... Could be wrong as I was looking at the 2.0T models

Josh has it fitted at the moment so should all be good, not sure if he modified it or not?

I can attest that it fits perfectly on my 2.5, either on its own or in addition to the stock heat shield. it should be fine with most aftermarket turbos too (which the stock one generally isnt). I have no idea about fitment on the 2.0T though.
