hey all, been searching for awhile trying to avoid posting Q"s that have been covered many times but still abit hazzy on a few things

mods im looking to do are 3"tbe, tmic, high flow filter then get it tuned with these mods is 165-170kw reachable? or are there a few other mods needed/should be done?

ive been qouted 1990 from sandj and 800 from willall for a tune is this ecutek the only reason for the huge differance? is the ecutek worth 1200 extra?

at what point is the factory fuel pump reaching its limits?

do i need an aftermarket boost controller or does the tuner up the boost with the custom tune?

Don't bother with S&J, it's a rip off for what they do and you'll end up being locked into EcuTek. A big part of that $1990 cost is the licence fee S&J have to pay. Factory fuel pump is good until you are looking upgrading turbo I think. No you shouldn't need an aftermarket boost controller & If the tuner does up your boost, it will only be very marginal.

thanks for that helpful info, is the boost set pretty high on these from factory? i was very suprised when i fitted a gauge to my old wrx it was 12psi stock, my other turbo cars in the past(xr6 turbo, datsun 1600 sr20) have been 4-6 psi factory

no worries, woudln't have a clue about stock boost, it has been talked about lots on the forum, do a quick search on it and you'll find something on it.

Throw in a turbo inlet pipe as well for some extra kw. But otherwise yes those mods you listed will get you to 165-170+

Also what car are you in? If you are in a post facelift GT then the VF46 is at about 15-16psi stock, can go to 17ish without too much to worry about from what others have said.

2007, pretty sure its a post facelift, was it only the post facelift models that had the 2.5t?

Yes for the GT only post facelift came with 2.5

What specific parts are you thinking of purchasing? Brands etc.

was thinking the hyperflow tmic, and the ultrax tbe, as for the intake im guessing just a kandn? want to keep the engine looking stock, i know in my wrx there was a resinator kidney looking thing i removed from the iner gaurd to increase intake is this the case here?

That one.

That looks as good as stock, especially as it sits under the engine cover. You will have to cut a tiny bit of your engine cover to fit it over an aftermarket TMIC though. Only the TMIC hole section needs to be trimmed a little on the part that hangs down.

And yes removing the "Resonator Bottle" from below the air box can increase air flow a little, if you don't mind the extra induction noise with the high flow filter.

I have pretty much what you mentioned and I ran 168kw. I'm still at stock boost levels (15-16psi).

I have GFB bov & pulley kit too but they wouldn't make much difference to the numbers at all.

To get closer to the 200 mark would the only mods need to be turbo(vf52) injectors(??) fuel pump(walbro) retune is that it?

Also how does yours go with 168 now? I'm hoping for quite a differance just want more of that pushing into the seat feeling like my old wrx. I know when I had my xr6 tuned it was a totally different car but it did go in with 200rwkw and came out with 327 haha

Yeah, I'm still gunning for the whack in the back I used to get from my old car, but that was a smaller engine running more boost.

I get a bit of a shove from mine, but not heaps. but the power delivery is very smooth. It's much nicer to drive.
Mine went in with 108 it was running like shit after installing all the parts without the tune.

I'm not much in the know of what will get you what power exactly but my future plan is to do nothing until I can afford turbo, fuel system upgrade, clutch, FMIC and a few other bits and pieces to go along with it. I don't think it is worth chasing more power on the stock turbo (although some others will disagree).

Don’t waste your money and time with turbo inlet pipe unless the OEM one is wearing....... you’re better off getting an air/oil separator or catch can.

It really depends on your budget, if your willing to spend $500-600+ on an EVC type boost controller and also plan to chase more power with stock turbo or are bigger one then it’s worthwhile.

Note, the EVC style boost controllers uses are stepper motor to control the boost, unlike the solenoid in the OEM setup, so finer adjustments can be made and also minimal spikes occur. Most controllers will also allow for high and low boost setting and some also double as are boost gauge.

Of course the tuner can always use the exiting OEM controller and just increase the boost, the end result really depends on the tuner and how well they tune your car.

A few of the tuners down in melb say inlet pipe has a pretty big benefit. one even said close to 10atw. is that not the case?
