I live in South Yarra so mostly do city driving & a once a week sprint out to Doveton to visit my father.

A few months ago I received my new ECU file from Paul at Pulse racing. My economy seems to have improved again. The figure on the left is freeway travel from Hallam service station refill back to Toorak Rd on the freeway. The second is just the culmination of recent driving. Granted I'm not pushing the car hard but it seems better than I had hoped for.

Any thoughts?

I used to get similar figures in my GTB after it was V-Tuned. Suspect yours is even leaner than mine or you're driving extra sedately. Really not sure what "too" lean is....

8.4L/100km seems pretty low.

I get at best 10.2L/100km in my pre-facelift manual GT (Ej257 short block, everything else is standard, Chasers tune) doing mostly suburban driving. Granted I have a safe, rich tune.

I guess I mean I'm only using the turbo to jump lanes up push through the freeway on raps. Can you tell me what you mean by lean?

Running an engine 'lean' is when less fuel is being injected into the engine than is considered optimal. Running 'rich' is the opposite.

While running an engine lean is good for fuel ecconomy, running too lean can cause serious engine damage. Hence when my old engine threw a big end, I decided to err on the side of caution when getting my tune and ask for a rich, safe tune.

Just rich doesn't always mean safe though...

^ very true. Main ingredient in a safe tune is a good tuner, and actually having the thing on a dyno instead of a "one size fits all" reflash

Just to clear up for those who joined dots incorrectly (I had to re-read the last 2 sentences a second time) - running lean will not cause a big end bearing to fail - you're looking at piston and combustion chamber type damage if you get detonation as a result of lean mixtures.
