Which petrol type and brand is best for a 2.5T

Postby bass_straitener » Wed Aug 03, 2011 12:06 pm

G'day Guys, and sorry if this has been covered before.

I am about to pickup a MY07 STI liberty and wondered if there is a preference for petrol brand and 95 or 98 octane rating fuel amongst 2.5T drivers.

Also, any that I should steer clear of.

Thanks.

Use 98 rather than 95. As long as you don't use Mobil, it doesn't matter which brand, just pick one and stick to it. That way the long term learning the ecu does will remain accurate for the specific density and other characteristics of the fuel.

I personally like Caltex E-Flex.

I've used 98 in all my cars since it became available in Australia around 12 years ago. Even if the car maker doesn't require it. It's cheap insurance for periods of heavy load / temperature. I always use BP now to ensure same formulation since the ECU has to re-learn when you change formulations.

I'll check what it says on the filler cap when I pick the car up tomorrow. I reckon I'll probably stick with the 98. I used to use it in the Landcruiser so have no issues paying a bit more. It will still be cheaper than the cruiser with it's 20l per 100km thirst. Cheers
