hey guys,

would like some feedback on different types of engine oil you guys have used and your recommendation on them.

came across the Motul 4100 Turbolight 10W40 i wonder if this would be any good? i've used royal purple 10w40 last service but its a bit pricy. Motul sutff is less than $60 for 5 litres.

Seems to be every week, in every engine section.

At work (Subaru Dealership) we use Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 in turbo engines and H6s and Castrol Magnatec 10W-30 in non turbo H4s.

My mate at his work (another Subaru Dealership) use a Mobil *something* 10W-30 in all Subaru engines (forgot which Mobil oil it is).

I would suggest a 5W-30 upto 150,000km+ and a 10W-40 there on.

Oil is oil, they all do their job, as long as it is changed every 6 months or 10,000kms at a maximum you won't have an issue. Stay away from expensive race oils however as they aren't designed to be used time and time again and they don't have the same detergents in them to clean the engine. Your everyday Mobil, Castrol, Penrite etc will all be suitable.

I use castrol edge 5w 30, $50 for 5 litres, my liberty loves it!

Changed every 6000kms religiously.

Castrol edge sport 0W40 changed every 6 months. Might switch to 5w30 as I do a lot of short (15min) drives so the lower cold startup viscosity should help

After a week of having this oil in I gotta say I'm pretty impressed! Ask Phat about "the green oil", it's pretty good value for a box! (comes with about 11.3 litres worth)

Wonder how this has affected/ caused the oil consumption issues that all these motors suffered from.
Since having mine and dumping the Shell rubbish that was in it, and switching to Magnatec, no oil usage at all for 5000km

I think Jarvis Subaru use Mobil, I haven't asked my mate. However I know a guy at Jarvis Ford and they use Mobil, so I reckon all Jarvis places would.

what i found is that when i run 5-30, the engine is a little more rev happy. but it seems to burn a little oil.

with the 15-50, the engine takes a little longer to warm, not as rev happy, but burns next to nothing.
