I use the genuine Subaru oil filter, forgot the part number, cost about $15 from Subaru in Doncaster, also don't forget 2 get those 'crump' washers, replace them with a new one each time u change oil filter, like 50c or sumthin from Subaru dealer

would like some feedback on different types of engine oil you guys have used and your recommendation on them.

came across the Motul 4100 Turbolight 10W40 i wonder if this would be any good? i've used royal purple 10w40 last service but its a bit pricy. Motul sutff is less than $60 for 5 litres.

Costs me about $80 (price varies from $79.95 to $84.95) for 5L (only 4L used for the oil change) every 5,000km. Plus an oil filter (looking to move to the Mazda one as noted by BBB).

Firstly, I do not use this oil and have not tried it (yet) , however have read a lot about it in USA side forums.....

Around the time when the USA Turbo Legacys were chewing up turbos and spinning big end bearings there was a lot of chatter about Shell Rotella T6 Fully Synthetic 5W40.
Apparently it is a turbo diesel oil with "C" and "S" ratings and works well in highly stressed turbo applications and in motor bikes.
If you Google "Shell Rotella T6" you may be able to pick up some of the threads.

Got an 07 GT-B with 210k/km on the clock. Just about to do my 10k/km oil change.

Recommended by the manual of course is 5w30, but I'm thinking since I have a decent number of km, going 5w40 for the hotter months.

Anyone have any opinion on this?
And from the filter thread, is Ryco a fine brand to use? I don't know any real technical specifics of them, but they just seem like a 'home brand' of auto parts, purely based on that they make something for everything.

OEM filter or Mazda Equiv (as per Big Bad Benny's recommendation) are the go. Steer clear of aftermarket filters.

If you've got no oil consumption issues, no harm in staying at 5w30. I personally use 10w40 Motul in my GTB & it's only got 89K on the clock.

Yet to find out about my consumption, only had the car 2 months, and only done 3k/km in it myself.

That said, will be giving City Subaru a call to get a filter off them so I can do the change on the weekend.
