Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have experienced this or might know what is causing it.

The car is a '07 Auto GT wags. The engine is standard. The only mod is a HKS filter, however, i had noticed the problem with the standard air filter.

Basically when you use really slow/light throttle, the engine wants to stall (ie, engine rpms drop and the car jerks rappidly). Sometimes the engine will recover with more throttle, and sometimes it will die all together. This mainly happens when idling after a period of time or in heavy traffic for example.

The biggest problem with this is that it is VERY intermittent. You could go a week or more without having an issue, and then it will do it.

FYI, idle RPM is all good.

I had a problem in my 05 GT auto sedan, every so often it would stall reversing up hill with light throttle it also happened a couple of times with medium throttle and my foot slipped off the accelerator causing the revs to drop suddenly. I never investigated it very far to be honest but would be interested to know what the outcome might be.

something along the lines of
-air leak, intake or exhaust
-dirty AFM
-dirty Throttle body
-dead o2 sensors
-dead Coolant sensor

all of which would cause bad AFR's or cause the ECU to struggle to control the idle properly

easiest things are to
-check everything for leaks
-clean the AFM with contact cleaner (if your Pod is oiled it may have covered the AFM in oil)
-clean out the throttle body with upper-engine cleaner
then have the ECU logged/ checked to see what the sensors are doing

beyond the simple things, it could be anything from a Torque converter that is staying locked up (like driving to a stop without putting your foot on the clutch) due to a gearbox solenoid issue,
too low oil in the gearbox/ front diff/ TC

My 08 GTB used to frequently do that.

Usually only happened when it was cold, or in stop start traffic.

Took it in several times and it never did it for them. They flushed something in the engine and gave it back to me, then it did it driving out the driveway of STI but never when they were with me.

Mine had been tuned by STI as well and they were thinking it may have been that that caused it, however interesting that yours hasn't been touched.

Mine has started doing the same thing but it doesn't stall, just idles really low. It started ever since they had to do the oil turbo line. I've taken it in twice and they can't find what is wrong, I reckon its a boost or air leak but they don't listen to me.

I've found that most new cars require more revs (IE: More clutch slipping) to get moving smoothly.

Aftermarket BOV does that to me but I know you don't have one.

I've got a similar issue, nothing to do with idle though.

Sometimes i'll take off, not always flatout. And at some point, usually in 1st gear power will drop dramaticly
and then it will all come back again about a second later.
Any one ever had this issue and got to the bottom of it?

That sounds like it's hitting fuel cut or something... Also happens when traction control kicks in, but I didn't think any Gen 4 Libs had it anyway.

Why would it be hitting fuel cut?

I reckon it has something to do with the crappy electronic throttle.

Only occasionally in my 6MT ive taken off and its spluttered and then come back to speed, however not the point of stalling.

Have a mate with a s1 6MT 3.0RB and his does the same somtimes, spluttering on take off.

Mine will stall if I have it in triptronic at a stop and give it a little bit of throttle but then brake again. Eg. Hesitate slightly at a side street with on coming traffic, think of going then stop. Revs drop and with no clutch to engage cause it's an auto it dies

Sounds like the OL/CL delay.

Easy to fix.

OL/CL = Open Loop/Closed Loop with regards fuel maps and trimming?
