Sorry to raise up an old thread.. BUT :)

The GT still has the original running in oil, which will get changed at the 5k service, however the oil has been in there since May, and even though they say the car hasn't run much until October when it was registered, I still think I should change it as a precaution - I've doen about 2300 now. Question, full mineral or a blend? I'd like to stay away from a full synth till 12,500 I think.

I was thinking a 10w30 mineral, but need some recommendations for brand.

TiA!

Chris

My 2 cents is the earlier u change to full synth the better because as the engine gets older and u make the change to full synth I believe it could get quite dirty very quickly which isnt good for the engine.

I could be wrong

Cheers

Its good stuff mate....its a custom blended oil not pure synthetic or pure mineral but a good blend.

Factory fill is /was full synth... if you look at the top up oil that subaru sells it clearly says on the bottle that its full synth.

I'm using Motul 5w30.

OK, I guess you hear varying things - when I bought my rexy they said to run a mineral oil for the first couple of thousand and then switch to a synthetic. After doing some reading following my previous post, I was planning to switch to a 10-30 synthetic from 5000. I guess the general consensus is always to just use a good oil and change regularly, you can't go wrong!
