Fuel consumption???

Postby PAZ04U » Mon Dec 13, 2010 5:52 am

Hey guys,

I filled up for the first time on Friday since owning the car, and I reset the trip computer as I like doing that every time i fill up to see how many kms I get to a tank. Now after filling I went through the different options you can have the little LCD display show in the instrument cluster and i stopped on kms - empty and it said 520kms. Now I've traveled about 40kms since then, I haven't really given it a hard time but it says I've got 320kms to empty???? And just to add this was driving in intelligent mode and the fuel gauge is Now nearly sitting between full line and the next line on the gauge.
So it's virtually still full.
Now I've also noticed that after the intake installed and in intelligent mode when the economy meter is at half way it says I'm using 50l/100kms?

I don't know if the computer has to get used to the more air coming through the intake now but has anyone else had this problem after installing a intake?

Cheers, Alex.

Did you get a chance to clean your AFM whilst fitting your new intake

Your ECU might be running a little rich trying to compensate for the extra air…… or your using too much throttle cause your enjoying the spooling sound….. :D :D
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

Driving in [I] mode all the time seems to be worse for fuel economy, save it for when you don't need to take off, Hwy/Fwy driving seems to be the go.
Your issue is not to do with Intelligent mode, but just for future reference.

I usually obtain around the 350 - 375km mark as a guide (naturally this becomes higher if I take a few trips on the M4 etc)

- I do not drive very spirited
- I live in the inner west and spend most time locally in traffic
- usually leave it in S mode

Are you joking?
I get 450 easily and I don't do highway km, if I do I can crack 550km.
Most of my driving is about 20 minute trips, and I like to give it a bit most of the time too, sport and sport sharp.

What mods have you done to your car?

Also depends on the type of "non-highway" you do. If you are driving around in nice flowing suburban traffic you will get substantially different numbers to someone who drives their car in gridlocked traffic where you rarely get over 40km/h and spend more time sitting still idling than moving. You'll also get some really bad numbers if you only drive the car a couple of minutes at a time - the car never gets out of its warm up cycle.

Correct. This is the exact reason on both levels.

Parramatta Rd is a car park and I only live 4kms from work.

Nil mods yet..! (will be receiving a tune)

The kms seem about right to me. My 2L STI obtained around 400kms for the same driving.

Well i suppose i should have a whinge too....lol

Lucky to get 300km out of a tank....welcome to Eastern Suburbs, do a few longer runs anywhere else and
the economy gets a lot better. Usually says 320 or 310 to empty.

I get about 9.2ish with the MY10 gt sedan auto in S mode (wonder if the "I" mode actually works! must engage it someday) with a 75/25 highway and city driving mix, gives me about 550-600klms for a tank. the MY08 GT B got a little less and about 9.6 average. The advertising of the new car being 10% more economical is correct.

08 gtb 6mt - lifetime consumption is now 10.2l/100km at 71k kms (lease report end Nov). On Cruise control at the legal limit , 2 up and baggage I can reach Canberra on a tank - ~650kms. Cruising in 6th on a flat road at 100kph shows 7l/100km. Usual city tank refill is at ~500.

yep, I've gotten from near Warragul through Melbourne city, a bunch of getting lost and found again in North Melbourne and up the Hume to Gundagai (only reason for the stop was to relieve the bladder and sore backside after a solid 5 and a half hour stint) - 630km on just under 50 litres. Just myself but the car was pretty well loaded up
