Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting an intake for the lib, but it looks like not many people put an intake on?

Is there a reason for it? I was thinking of going with a Cobb tuning intake with the airbox and maybe changing the turbo inlet pipe too?

What are your opinions on this?7
Is it worth it? I'm just looking for some sound as I love the sound of he turbo and some extra killerwasps but I know I wont gain that much (I'm better off getting a tune but I'm not sure if I want to go down that road yet)

I am looking at doing the exact same thing. At the moment i have the stock airbox with a k&n panel filter and an air intake hose to where the resonator was located. I will go to a Short Ram intake with pod filter inside a Cobb tuning airbox, eventually will go silicon short fat bit and a silicon intake hose to turbo, but funds are limited.

One of the fundamental rules to tuning is correct intake and exhaust mods, coupled with a remap your laughing.

if your after just sound then a hks panel filter with the resonator removed or pod filter will give you that.

But if your after performance based intake, I have fitted the following:

Avo inlet pipe
Zerosports air box to inlet S pipe
Hks panel
Standard air box…. You would be surprised how efficient the standard box is with a few additional parts added
Resonator removed
Phat GT Special Intake pipe drafting air from fog light surround to the air (resonator hole)
Prova air guide…. Drafts more air from the front grill into the air box.
Perrin tmic
Greddy type RS bov…….. A lot quieter then the oem in plumb back.

With a few others mods and tune, you can expect about 170 kw atw

don't forget fuel system upgrades too, pump and reg......just to be safe

Tony, how loud is your intake with all those mods?
I want to steer clear of getting a pod filter because I hate the huge whoosh sound it makes. I do have the hks panel filter but that is very mild and can't be heard unless you are giving it a bit.

My brothers old WRX had some pod filter in it, and every gear change no matter the how low the revs you could still hear it, get's a little annoying...and I wasn't even the one driving it.

It all depends if you have tbe fitted… . If you do, you will barely hear it unless driving along side a wall or concrete divider.

With a full tbe, it was a little louder, but no were near as loud as pod filter.

You can hear slight differences when driving in sport and sports# or even with high or low boost set.

It is far too loud with a pod needs to be put into a box. I could here mine 200-300 meters away was cool at the time. IMO

I went for the Hyperflow CAI in covert black.

perfect fitment, removes a lot of plastic crap from the engine bay, comes with samco fittings, bit of induction noise mostly when pulling hard which is bearable atm, hardly notice it with normal driving.

overall a good mod, imo.

I have a hyperflow and a turbo to rear diff xorst with std sti stuff after. So i have a very mild exhaust note but a massive boost and blow off noise. Its loud even just on boost 2psi sorta thing and blows off even when not seeing psi in the manifold (which does get annoying). But love the induction roar and boost squeel and hard blow off when giving it some beans.!!!

but my question here is what is the difference between 66mm and the 70mm AVO adapters??

66cm would be stock system direct bolt on.

70mm not sure.

Non standard diameter will require a bit more work in the tune MAF scaling to accommodate the unmetered air that will be passing.

If I was looking at a pod filter I'd consider the Cobb a little better as most tuners will have access to MAF scaling tables for the Cobb. Not sure if the AVO one will be as easy to get access to. This would provide a slighter better MAF table for accuracy of metered air for your tune.
