Dump pipe install

Making the most of an opportunity to buy a Phat DP. Is it a neccesity to have a retune immediatly after fitting? Id prefer to do the rest of the intake/exhaust system before investing in a tune.
Will there be any great gain in running a DP without any other mods than a HKS panel?
Would there be any downsides to fitting a DP without a tune?
Cheers,
Sam

While some on here would declare you must absolutely get a tune after a DP, it's not entirely necessary. Yes, you won't get the full benefits on what an aftermarket DP would bestow you, it won't blow up your car if you don't get one.
There have been quite a few people on here that have run Phat's DP without a tune for months (one for over a year) without any issues. Even I ran Phat's DP without a tune for a few weeks. Sometimes it's just hard to organise a tune in line with all your exhaust mods. So yeah, nothing wrong with getting the 1 tune at the end of your mods so you don't have to pay for a re-tune.
Even with no other mods like a centre or mufflers, you will still feel the difference. Response will be more immediate. You won't get large gains from a DP, but the car will certainly be more driveable.

Thanks for the advice. Its all a matter of time and cost! I cant afford to do everything at once, however, once I have a part, I will be hard pressed to keep it off the car!

I ran my PHAT DP with no tune for close to 7 months BUT the tune certainly did improve matters somewhat.

ive had my phat dump on for about 7 months now and still no tune...plus i just fitted a catback last night. so i now have full turbo back exhaust with no tune.
its totally safe...im not a fan of paying for a tune only to do more mods and having to pay again.
trying not to sidetrack here but if you get a tune done and then get another tune after more mods, is the second tune cheaper? (assuming you go back to the same place)

If you go back to the same tuner and that place is decent, re-tunes should be cheaper. However some tuners charge the full price or if you go to another tuner they usually charge full price as well.

A couple more questions -
How much is average to get a DP fitted? Im located in Darwin, so my options are limited!
Is there much of a power gain without a tune, or just an improvement in spool time and throttle response?
Cheers,
Sam

Most muffler places should be able to install the DP. However, you should check with Phat GT on tips and tricks for installing the Liberty specific one as most installers who have no clue about the Liberty tend to do it wrong.

Not much gain with or without a tune. It's mostly going to be the spooling and response. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Pipe arrived today! Nice piece of equipment!
What would be a fair install price? I have limited options here in Darwin, but dont want to be ripped off!
Cheers,
Sam

My mechanic mate added an hours labour to the cost of the purchase of my dump pipe, so going from that it shouldn't cost a lot.

Hi Sam
glad to hear the dump arrived safe
i would'nt pay more than $250 for the install but $200 and under would be the norm as its quite easy to do on a Liberty
or call me for phone install advice to save a few bucks. if you want to do this your self call me first to check you have the right tools to do the job

Thanks for that!
It arrived yesterday! Looks fantastic!
Not sure I want to try install myself as I dont want to mess it up! I have seen the pictures of how to cut the heat shield.
Phat, do you mind if I pass your number onto the mechanic in case there are any issues?
Sam

I had the pipe installed by a guy up here in darwin. Great job for a good price!
The pipe is awsome, changes the sound particularly when boosting, and the throttle response is greatly improved.
No tune as yet, hoping to be moving to perth shortly, so will do it down there. Noone I trust up here to dyno my car!
Kudos to PHAT, its a great peice of equipment, worth every cent!
