use 15w and re asses, you car is getting on so it will help mask clearance issues and seal the rings up better, ive used thicker oil in lots of cars (hundreds of cars) and it often fixes these issues for the mean time, long term it might make your car last longer but it may need a rebuild at some stage soon

If they do 5/10- 30/40 i would use that.

You will get more flow, thus more detergent through each oil gallery etc.

The 15w isn't the thickness :?

So what you're saying doesn't make sense

If 15w hasn't got anything to do with thickness, then why does every single mechanic I've spoken to (msr among many others), suggest that using a 15w would seal up an older engine better?

im a mechanic num saying, u want thick stuff for old engines use hpr 50 or they have some new pentrite thats 30-70 u need the extra on cold start cause thats when it has no oil pressure and needs it the most

i use the really thick shit it really high km cars or ones with bottom end noise

Maybe you need to understand the correlation between oil weight and viscosity ;)

I'll give you a hint - viscosity is a point of reference by temperature

ha ha know that too i have other qaulifications than motor mechanic ;)

and your point being? just cause i said thick ness doesnt mean you have to nit pick at my comment, how much real life expence do you have with oil? ive tried many oils for many cars in many contition engine and i can say i can comment the way i do cause ive been there and done that! just because a manufactor says you should run x type oil for x km service intervals doesnt make them right!

It seems delvac is good if dumped every 5 k but now after all opinions looks like factory spec should be used..

Is the factory spec oil good enough for a tuned gtb ?

Msr is big on the delvac my mate has been running it after tuning at msr

What a thread I've created !!
