I was pretty flat out on Friday so I didn't get a chance to call them, I was kind of expecting a call but never got one (to be fair he said that they were pretty busy) ... Shall call on Monday and discuss parts & pricing (that's if it is the head gasket).

Had a good chat to Nick, everything seems to be in good condition minus the headgasket & the clutch is on the way out. Just trying to source the Cosworth headgasket and ARP 2000 head studs that are within Aus so I'm not waiting around forever (time to ring around).

Also getting CV Boot & fog light fixed.

Try Tuspeed for the HG and hit Adam up for some drop in Cossie pistons whilst you're at it.
He should know where to get the studs too.

Thanks, I did find tuspeed to be one of the better priced places. I've been talking to Adam so far. I'd love to keep putting extras on like some forged pistons but it'll just keep eating into my pockets more and more

Also can't seem to find head stud kits in 2000 just 8740 - Are we talking a huge difference? - Answered my own Q by reading: http://arp-bolts.com/pages/technical_metallurgy.shtml

So turns out my flywheel may of been replaced, it doesn't appear the be the right size. Nick's chatting to Subaru to see if it's the OEM part and where it may of come from as it looks to match a 5 speed. May need to replace it as well. He thought that someone may of just done a conversion from a standard GT but chassis num says otherwise.

Confused, I wonder why the wrong flywheel has been put in at one point...

I would say its a fuck up more then a swap!! Big fuck up, but if you have matching numbers you are safe!!

You would have had issues tho, if it was wrong!

That's the weird thing, there didn't appear to be any issues. I'm being hopeful for the end of the week, will have a better idea this afternoon as we're waiting to hear back from Subaru.

This is not as uncommon as you might think and I reckon most likely your car was built with it.

A few engine builders I spoken to have told me of similar findings when opening up these cars. The flywheel being the most common part that seems not to be the right one used. There are others..

I have a conspiracy theory which I've shared with a few friends. The MY07 and MY08 Liberty was built during the GFC. Most manufacturers were light on funds and some builds may have been parts bin left overs used to manage costs and keep the doors open.

Again it's just a theory and probably best discussed over too many beers.
