After market free flowing dump pipe is an absolute for performance imo.

Yep thirded!

No probs with the OEM solenoid in all tunes I've seen and experienced (up to 16.5 PSI). In fact boost control is roick solid with no flaring.

Also I'm not convinced on the rear cans being the biggest restriction, I believe the centre and dump pipe pose more going from dyno results done with another member on here in Brisbane. Seen the same mods get within 7kw difference
Between cars with only rear cans as the difference and that was in the higher end, mid range was negligable. Yes Dave I know the sound is ordinary tho :)
Large gains were seen however after swapping the DP and centre pipe
In fact another forum member dropped the rear aftermarket pipe size to 1.75in to reduce noise further and it hardly hurts power at all.

So based on all that...anyone got suggestions for who in Perth can do a dump pipe and centre pipe for the 2.5T? The last ring around I did was very much ...."umm yeah, we can look for a dp, a guy I know might be able to source one".

Made it sound like i was going to get a mangled imprezza dp to jam into the LibGT.

Oh, and cpitts, what did the silcone intake cost?
Started with a Gen2 Outback, then got a MY07 GT Spec.B Manual w Cat Back Exhaust and Verso Tuned, now got 2 kids and a MY07 GT Auto Wagon, Ultrex stealth back exhaust, panel filter, Whiteline Sways all round, Spec.b struts and springs and Kido-Tuned.

if you want a custom made dump pipe then go see Norm Butler as he is the man when it comes to this sort of thing in Perth.

I would just buy a Phat Dump pipe and get a mid and y pipe fabricated locally. Allstar Garage can do this for you, install it all and tune it afterwards using open source flash tune (Verso).

A couple of things here, the original poster wanted a quiet system that wasn't going to overly change the cars volume but give a bit of improvement. Both dump on it's own or mufflers on their own will do this.

Boxer, I agree with your testing, but would like to understand the configs tested. I imagine that the test would have been car with mufflers only, car with mufflers and dump. Clearly this will show bigger numbers, I'm not arguing that at all. Have you got an example of OEM mufflers + dump v's, OEM dump + mufflers? I assume everything else was the same on the cars? I've dyno'd 2 cars with exactly the same mods and even ECU maps and seen a 10kW ATW difference! How's that for weird! :P Just goes to show what runing in and driving styles will do.

w.r.t Silicon Intakes, I got mine from ProSpeed Racing (have a look in the vendor section here), He should have one or two left that he's moving on. I've manufactured my own short fat bit between the Silicon Inlet and the airbox as the supplied item from PSR reduces internal diameter at the connector to the inlet pipe which is not what I was after. But there's nothing wrong with their item from a quality perspective. In fact, it's on my car right now until I fit my inlet pipe!

!

Nope - STock run - all OEM, then same car with initial mods of DP & centre dyno run big improvement. Then car run again with muffs fitted - not a lot of diff

second test - same dyno same day - Pulse tunes on identical Lib mods except one running stock rear muffs, the other a full system. (Both with DP, centre aftermarket) - 7 kw less out of the stock muffs car

Third test (and not really conclusive to the OEM argument) Aftermarketfull system - rear 2.25" muffs changed to 1.75" and no large power drop.

As for the original intent of the thread - yep DP and Centre with stock muffs gives you the quietest setup whilst still giving decent gain. However the note you get from the system is not the most highly tuned sound

+1 on what boxer just said...the difference is like night and day and I have tired it both ways..my hitechs are a pleasure to the ear no matter what the speedo and tacho say but the same cant be said for the stock mufflers including the "special" tuned by sti muffs.

Dave - I really should take up your offer to drive your car. I'm sure it'll answer many questions.
