Owen how do you find the GT2871R and does it work on my 07?

anything will fit with modding ... :)

Owen runs a twin scroll gt28 setup like the 04-06 models which requires different up pipe / headers from memory

My car has been converted into a twinscroll setup. I make more power at 3000rpm than people with VF52s make at 6500rpm due to the design for early spool. I probably would have gotten a GTX3071R and run at slightly lower boost if I were to do it again. Justin has the GTX3071R. Maybe speak to him? My turbo wouldn't really be applicable to your car.

Blouch 1.5 XTR with 8cm-10cm rear is the flavor for something in the GTX3071r sizes...not that there is anything wrong with a GTX3071r :)

So I've now been to a few workshops and have some ideas about where I want to go and done a huge amount of reading. I'm not obsessed with numbers but I want to avoid lag as much as I can. The workshops say if I go to the vf52 with a good TBE and tune I can get about 170kw on my auto GT Lib. I'd really like to be more in the vicinity of 200kw but it seems the choice of turbos after a 52 gets very foggy. I suggested Blouch to them and they said things became more complicated because they didn't fit up as easily as the vf52. Keeping in mind I need to be careful with budget what do you all think? Go with the 52 or is it possible to pay a small amount more and get something that's going to get me closer to 200?

If they told you the Blouch is harder to fit than a vf52 then go to a new workshop

For your goals. Dom 1.5XTR. Basically a 2871 with better housing to suit Subaru flange

And ability to go to 24psi on a 2.5?.......
21psi every day for months on my Dom 1.5XTR and would certainly recommend it.
Get a good set of headers, TMIC, dump, 3port boost solenoid and an AVO intake tube to the turbo, tune from kido and done.

J
CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.

Yeah. Blouch turbo is dead easy to fit. I put mine on it about 2 hours. As the others have said dom1.5 xtr and away you go. I hear they are doing special order 7cm rear ones now, which would be even more responsive.
That said, running a PT6766 or GT4088 would yield the results you want with some headroom.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

Good info, thank you. I really appreciate and respect the advice here.

To confirm, the turbos you are referring to are another step up from the vf52 but maintain a similar spool time?

Great news re the low install time. I was quoted 3 hours to fit the 52 from workshops here. At this stage I can't squeeze an upgrade TMIC into the budget so my interim plan was for TBE, tune and whatever turbo I go with. A new fuel pump was recommended so I will try and do that as well. Thoughts?

Dom 1.5 is a step up from the vf52. I was being a touch face

Postby kiahatsiu » Sun Dec 22, 2013 2:11 pm

The blouch dom1.5xtr is a decent step up from the vf52. The other two that were listed are just ridiculous. Not really suited to a 2.5ltr at all. They flow about 900-1000hp worth of air.
The vf52 and blouch units will all take the same about of time to fit, as it is exactly the same process.
Dump, exhaust, inlet pipe, air filter, injectors, fuel pump, decent TMIC, dom1.5 and tune will net you very impressive power. It will also cost you about 10k at a work shop at a guess. Then you will undoubtedly run into the head lifting and or ring land issues that every ej255 seems to run into.

Ian.

Power mods advice

Postby rada0469 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 6:24 pm

Thanks kiahatsiu, dr20t and all. Hope you don't mind me asking so many questions. Again I'll say this has been the best source of info I can find. Can't see the point in reinventing the wheel, esp as I figure my goals are somewhat modest (well at least in comparison to the amazing machines you all build on here!) I figure I have 3 options...

1) Get the vf52 and be happy despite not reaching my 200kw power goal (yeah right)

2) Get the vf52 as interim and later upgrade to Blouch. If I do this will mods need to be done to my TBE or will just bolt up in place of the 52? Do I tell the shop I might later upgrade to the Blouch when they are making my TBE?

3) If I decide not to do the vf52 and go straight for a Blouch, how best to source a second hand Blouch?

Thanks again everyone.

Don't want to battle against the gurus here but don't you think a dom1.5 is a bit big for his power goals? Esp with an auto box...

PoidaGT has 200kw atw tuned by MSR in his auto with a vf52.

If it was me, I'd say the blouch 380xt is easily enough for your power goals.

Edit: justin got 230kw atw with the 380xt...although it was with the 6 speed.
