My mate with the MY09 WRX literally lives 300 m from my house and we are doing some controlled tests / logs. His car has 2.5 ltr and VF52 combo which will give me a very accurate picture of what I can expect. Also Teste1010 lives in Indiana which a lot colder than Perth in winter and no where as hot in the summer.

It won't be indicative, as the head and intake manifold are different on the WRX. The head is vastly different, and you WILL get major discrepancies between the Liberty and Impreza engine outputs.

Just saying... it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Intake manifold length affects torque output and delivery, amongst other things.

nope its a Liberty VF46 to WRX VF52 comparison which I am completely aware of Clarence but thanks for pointing this out just the same.

Dragging up a old thread but can anyone tell me where to buy a VF52 other than Subaru Australia?? A reliable US vendor maybe?
The results on the GTpump turbo's are just not doing it for me. Or is there something else out there maybe in twinscroll that will bolt up to the tmic??

Wouldn't bother with the VF52 upgrade guys... It's BEEN DONE by a member on here for a ~12hp @ hubs gain?...

Not even close to being worth the change over for me!

Not me... I'll leave it to him if he wants to post up himself, but from what he told me(and I remember), power went from ~240hp to ~252hp on the ASG dyno.

I'm sure it would depend upon supporting mods used as to whether the restriction is from other parts apart from the turbo, although the car did have an aftermarket exhaust/intake/TMIC, and I think maybe headers as well?

For me, upgrading the turbo is only going to be worthwhile for a significant gain, which is why I have opted for a larger option than most would probably go for. That and I am aiming to beat my old WRX's output without putting too much strain on the EJ255...

If you are just looking for a small gain top end and more mid range without sacrificing down low in the rev range, then the VF52 may do the trick, I just don't see it pulling big numbers, and that may disappoint some buyers.
Have a look at the size comparison's between the two turbo's and you can see why the difference is never going to be massive...

You're looking at a manufacturer figures of around ~20Kw difference at the motor(between the GT and 09+ WRX), so why would it be significantly more than that with aftermarket bits?

It all depends on what you're after. A VF52 upgrade is good for about 25% more power with just a straight swap and without having to upgrade little else. And yes, if complimented by a TBE, top/front mount, and tune, the car becomes very driveable. :D

However if you're looking for significantly more power, then look for a larger aftermarket unit. But you'll also have to compliment that with things like high flow injectors, fuel regulator, fuel pump, customised dump pipe, etc.

It means weeks off the road. And if yours is a daily driver, it could prove difficult. Whereas the VF52 is practically a 1 day job.

For those chasing big numbers, it's not worth the effort. Otherwise for a decent boost in power with minimal downtime and additional mods, the VF52 is practical for some people. Plus not everyone is out to beat Jimmy S's old WRX. :D

But i am out to beat the old number too.. haha kidding.
I am looking to install the same turbo as Jimmy, albeit the slightly smaller version of the TD06-20g, the TD06SL2-20g, i did consider the VF52 at one stage, but like Jimmy i realised that for all the work involved why not go bigger?

Although for anyone that was looking to just bolt on the larger VF52 without doing much else and wanted that bottomend daily driver type power then its probably a worthwhile change. For those that want to chase some power then look elsewhere.
