SI - Drive Question (Fuel Efficiency)

I just leave it in I and then click it straight to S# when i need some performance i dont bother with S.. lol.. if i want performance.. i want ALL of it..

As pointed out previously - there is NO more performance in S# compared to S - only throttle response, you have max throttle at 3/4 pedal, so it FEELS faster because at light pedal openings its actually giving more throttle.

Easy test - floor it and swap between S & S# and back (probably need 4th gear so it doesn't happen too quickly)

Also fuel ecomony will only be better in I due to it only allowing half throttle (and hence 0.5 bar boost max) You can get exactly the same economy in S and S# if you only use part pedal.

SI drive is only a function of modulating how much pedal=howmuch throttle - nothing more.

PS - Cruise control bypasses all SI drive - it will allow full throttle/boost even when in I mode

i feel a huge difference when i floor it on I and when i floor it on S#, must be becoz i have an auto =) i think the SI drive has more of an effect with an auto box?

Yes true - the SI will change the behaviour of the auto - still no more grunt though

actually its not really useless in the auto...

useless in manual coz really it only changes throttle responsiveness ie. how much u press vs how much input through to ur engine..

in the auto, it makes a huge diff because it will change the box's gear selection making the car itself more responsive for example in s# because u will be in 4th gear while cruising thereby keeping the revs higher thereby allowing the turbo to kick in faster when u slam the foot down..

also means u get crappy fuel economy when u keep it on S# but hey.. ya know.. i'm driving a sports sedan lol !

I use it a bit - when in traffic - I mode, S for everyday stuff and S# for fun. Recently on our Melbourne cruise, I drove in S# for the whole trip, obviously, and absolutely cained it for most of the trip... Returned 11.2l/100km for the cruise... Bloody happy with that. I dunno how I did it especially when engine braking and using revs to keep up the boost!

The way Sean at S&J has set my SI drive up with the ECUTEK etc... S is perfect for every day with a linear response and 163kW ATW.

S# has 172kW but is so much more sharp every where else to the point it is difficult to drive smoothly around town but is spot on for a spirited drive or when you need instant response.

Driving at steady speed, if you switch from S# to S the 'eco' gauge immediately improves but you also feel in instant dulling of the throttle.

An excellent set up for me.
