I spoke to the Subaru service manager this afternoon and took him for a drive and he thinks it might be the neutral switch in the gear box.
Heres hoping for a overdue resolution. :)

Well, Subaru had the car again today and the official conclusion is:

"we can't find anything wrong with it. Because you've had the car tuned you should probably get your tuner to look at it as he can access all of the engine parameters. We can't see some of them. We did notice that after the road test the car smelled like it was running rich which might be causing the higher than normal idling."

Does anyone know if that sounds right? About the running rich part? I'm still confused. :?
