I think that's your answer

Bad batch of fuel will cause af correction as well as timing correction

Subaru knock control first retards timing in increments of 1.2 degrees. If this isn't enough it'll jump it up, then if you're still getting feedback knock (from knock sensor) then your computer will cut iam (ignition advanced mutiplier). This multiplier basically dictates total timing across your whole timing table

An ecu reset with a new batch of fuel, and some very sedate driving for 5kms should bring iam back up to 1.0, which should give you more timing

Failing that, you may have a blocked cat or a boost leak somewhere

Good luck mate

Cheers mate, it does feel quite retarded.. Once boost starts coming on it retards even further.. Which fits the fuel theory...

What's the easiest way to reset the ecu on one of these? Just plain old battery disconnection? (like Toyota) or something more required?

Yeah disconnect battery, pump brakes about ten times to discharge all voltage and leave it for ten mins then reconnect battery

Your iam will default to 0.5 once you reset the ecu.

Try to baby it after the reset cos the knock sensors are quite sensitive and if it picks up any knock it won't advance the iam from 0.5.

Drive it sedately for 5kms or so and it should be ok

Then give it a squirt and see how she goes

Good luck

dunno... im getting a tune soon anyway so will just reset for now and hope for the best..

i got a couple of renovation things to pay for, and gotta order a new 35R for my race car...

once i've done that, im just gonna get a Kido tune..

unfortunately with 2 mortgages and $50k of house renovations under way, my car modification money is kinda limited..

Tank of 98, clean air filter, Subaru upper engine cleaner, reset ecu (disconnect battery) reevaluate.

Doesn't seem all that slow from the video.

Daniel: buy a gen 5. Or buy an LCD screen and make a little computer hooked upo the shifter.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

Air filter is clean... its a K&N one.. less than 2000k's old.. i checked it the other day..

it's just recently been in for the 112.5k service.. you reckon it's worth doing the upper engine cleaner again? after the bad fuel..

gonna go and fill up/reset ECU now.. will report back..

cheers all for the advice/help/opinions etc...

well........ that made a difference..

went down to BP and got a full tank of 98.. did the ecu reset and drove it for about 8k's like an absolute granny..

pulled over, switched off and on again... pulled out and:

the video doesnt exactly show how much better it is.. but it is.. MUCH better..

it's mainly down low that it had issues, now it's back to normal.. i can now hoof it in 2nd, 3rd or 4th and it will just pull.. no hesitation...

there is still the factory defect in the mapping at around 3000rpm, but nowhere near as bad as before.. and can only be felt in 3rd..

cheers again for all the hints, ideas etc...

I wont touch anything buy bp98s. If there was any eflex or 85 in my area that would be a different story.

I've been fine running Vortex 98, the main advantage for me being that the petrol station is down the road from me and right next to my gym as well!

I've had mixed results with vortex... I found driving like for like I got better mileage on vortex... Having said that, when I put it in my race car (tuned on bp98) the car popped farted a little on the dyno and dropped a few kw..

V power has gone to shit..
