So did I...which is why I was stressing out so badly. It always was always a bit strange though as other than the logs, in stock condition the car drove really nice and cleanly. I never really noticed any flatness in the power caused by timing retard...it was only really noticeable in the tactrix logs.

Anyway, it was a happy ending.
Started with a Gen2 Outback, then got a MY07 GT Spec.B Manual w Cat Back Exhaust and Verso Tuned, now got 2 kids and a MY07 GT Auto Wagon, Ultrex stealth back exhaust, panel filter, Whiteline Sways all round, Spec.b struts and springs and Kido-Tuned.

Great! Did fixing that via the tune also fix the engine noise issue?

Nah, the engine noise is normal as I found out (3 mechanics consensus) later. It was XRT telling me my engine was going to die that made me overreact and panic about the noise.

(Other problem is our family car is a Lexus RX330, so comparing the two makes the lib sound like a tractor. :lol: )

Agreed, my idle sounds a little clattery, assured its normal, get a louder zorst or turn up the music! :P

My idle got somewhat quieter after replacing the cracked oil filler lower o ring.
Some of the noise was crank case blow-by choofing out of the leaky o ring maybe...
