Intercooler: FMIC & TMIC

The core still sits how i had it sitting in the photo with the out/inlets at the top, but just imagine the pipes running along the bottom of the headlights and curling through the vacancies where the resonator and washer bottle are.

I know its a bit of pipework, but Phat did a top job and kept it as minimal as possilbe. Like i said, i just cant see any other way to do it.

Old RS style was the bomb, had it in my old Gen1 wagon. 4 peices of pipes and 2 were straight!

Did you rotate your comp housing on the hot side or did you find you didn't need to?

Oh, it's Phat's fmic st up? I know what they look like... I seen it on Jim's old car... Nah, that is the only one i like... And the only one worth while doing... But i was trying to find others... Very difficuly... Yeah, had the oversteer set up on the RSTI... I couldn't agree more!

Mick just put a flange on the piping and went straight off the top. Could easily do a rotated housing, infact i think i might when i go for a turbo upgrade.

For nearly the same money as a decent TMIC, Phat could knock you up a full FMIC.

Lag in a FMIC is minimal, the turbo isnt an on/off switch according to the pedal, its ALWAYS pumping air through the pipes regardless. The only difference adding a FMIC to mine was increased mid/top end and no doughy heatsoak from sitting at traffic lights, = instant win. No difference in lag or anything, its so minimal its nearly a myth.

For the money you would be crazy not to do a FMIC, why do it half arsed? A TMIC is fine in the average car but to get the most of modding its the way to go, i could go on for hours but its tried and true.

The car feels more solid and breathes better! 110% win on a FMIC, It's how it is installed and how the pipes are routed that helps allot too! Glad you are really happy with your FMIC now mate, took you a while but sounds like you are enjoying it. I'm just dying to know how you go with your new tune though.

With the right sized core, you only have to cut a bees dick worth of the bar off.

I think from memory my core is 550x230?x65. More than ample size to do the job.

with TMIC these days and the way they are made most will do as good a job as a front mount intercooler. FMIC are pointless unless u are making over 270kw@wheels

there are plenty of cars out there in the WRXs and STIs making over 300 with TMICs. Libertys are no different

Hmm dont necissarily agree with you there.

Doesnt matter how big your TMIC is, its still sitting on top of the engine soaking up the heat everytime you stop.

All my Subarus i have done FMIC's on have been so much better to drive than with a TMIC, instantly. How can you say its pointless unless pushing for huge hower? Explain why nearly all manufacturers use FMIC intercoolers these days? There are so many gains to be had, its worth it on ANY build.
