Accidentally put 91 regular fuel in!

Postby bigBADbenny » Wed Dec 12, 2012 8:58 pm

I was filling up tonight and at about $43 on an empty tank realised I was pouring in 91 regular!!!
I always use 98... Tuned on 98...
I was about 10k from home so I topped off with $35 of 98 and drove very slowly and calmly in "I".

What's the verdict re: the possibility of my car exploding?
What are the recommended options re: additives, driving out or draining some fuel?

If you're super paranoid, drop the fuel.. Otherwise i'd justput a bit of octane booster in and take it easy for the tank.

+1 on the octane booster and taking it easy

Work out what RON fuel you have at the moment, Octane Boosters generally give around 4 - 6 RON per bottle

Octane booster to get the level up agreed.

Did this once before in my old supercharged Toyota 4AGZE.

My tuner then at the time recommended I do this.

Cheers Benny

you'll definitely need a new engine. if you try to start the car tomorrow the wheels will fall off, thats due to excess carbon in the flux capacitor.
hope this helps.

i'd drain it...octane boosters kills plugs and sensors...that is with time though...but I would still drain it

Half a tank though Jack should be ok but to be extra extra safe you could drain it..

Seems like a waste of fuel but might feel better Benny leave a bit to get to servo though :o

nah suby engines have different compression on each cylinder (which gives that 'suby rumble' - but we all know that). putting 91 changes the compression and will flood the washer fluid overflowing onto the exhaust which when hot creates steam that goes into the cabin through the A/C vents and inevitably kill everyone inside.
happened once to a guy i know.

Pretty sure oil is better than octane booster.
Mix a litre of oil in there there and it'll probably run better than with 98.

Don't use synthetic though, that would be bad for your car.

Just get a rag dip it in some 98 and hang it out of the fuel filler hole light it up and then start the car, it'll run as good as new

A bottle of octane booster will be fine Benny. Lucky it was 91 and not diesel.
