I know that the 2.0L has a physically different turbo for auto/manual, but not too sure with the 2.5L

Ok cool thanks. Is the vf46 any good or should I look at scraping it before install?

While on this topic does anyone know whether the MY08 STI WRX was the VF46 or is it bigger?

I do not believe the VF46 has been used on the WRX.

MY08 had VF48, and then MY09 onwards had VF52.

Matt

Are you about to fit a 2.5T engine into your outback?

Actually the outback is stripped in anticipation. When I get back on Friday night I will be smashing into it to get it back on the road by the following weekend. ... Why is that?

Sorry paggaz but this is incorrect

Usdm 06-08 had the vf29 or td04 depending on auto / manual

08 plus wrx (non sti - ej255 motor) had vf52

In the states, Vf46 was only ever released on the legacy

I wasn't sure if you're outback was an import as not as i have only seen turbo outbacks in the US (you must have a GT bonnet already installed).

Swapping the turbo would be easier with the engine out but it doesn't cost too much to have the Turbo swapped while in the car anyway (I was charged $350 and it took less than 2 hours). The biggest cost is obviously the Turbo. (My VF52 cost about $1270 landed).

Thanks for that clarification Mick. Not sure where I gained that info that but I just did a bit of a search to refresh the memory and yeah, no bingo
