i think that's adjusting the pedal location, not the actual clutch catch point.

ok, i spoke to Ray from ART yesterday about this.

the adjustment that's been linked will change it maybe 5 to 10mm

beyond that, you need to take the box apart to do it properly...

5-10mm can be enough to dramatically change the clutch feel IMO.

Personally I didn't find the clutch to be a problem in most Suby's... You want to feel an aweful clutch, try driving a MY00 Vectra V6... It's probably the worse driving experience you'll ever have

Good news about that.. 5 - 10mm should make a difference.. did he happen to mention where this adjustment can be made from?

Liberty GT Clutch

Postby tehx » Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:35 pm

I have an MY07 Liberty GT 2.5T with a similar clutch setup. It was something I had checked over when I purchased the car as it worried me also. The car had only done 25,000 km and it feels rather odd compared to my old WRX and new Forrester.

I was reading somewhere (so don't quote me lol) a way to check is to place the car on flat ground and apply the hand brake. Put it in 2nd gear and release the clutch. If it stalls your clutch is ok, if its buggered it will slip.

There is an adjustment up the top near the pedal (silver nut on a threaded rod/bolt) I can see but not sure if its just for pedal position or an adjustment for the engagement point.

After a little time & practice I actually rather like the setup. It makes for quick shifts with less effort as you don't have to travel so much between shifts. Once you have a feel for the engagement and release points a quick pump is all it takes. It actually reminds me of a mates race car setup. With so many gear changes per minute it reduces the amount of work required to shift.

I noticed my clutches friction point is all the way up the top (away from the floor) and it really annoys me.. i think mainly cause i have always had my cars in the middle or closer to the floor..

Does anyone else notice this or is it just me? Some of my friends even tell me my clutch could be on its way out  my car has only just ticked over 30,000kms

Adam

Going to revive the old thread.

I had my car serviced the other day and my mechanic changed the clutch fluid.

When i got in the car the clutch felt weird!!!

B4 service the friction point was all the way up the top and i was used to it.

After my mechanic changed the oil the friction point is now all the way near the floor.

The car has only done 33,000kms.

So the big question is WHAT CAUSED THE BIG CHANGE? and is this a good thing???

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Steve, no adjustment, just changed oil by bleeding it.
He even tried bleeding it again and it made no difference.
So he topped it up to the level and i went home.

my opinion,, dont complain lol... i will happily pay to get my friction point closer to the floor.. i prefer it that way..

unless the clutch is slipping or doesnt feel like it grabs as well as it use to i wouldnt worry about it..

Adam, clutch is fine works the same way but i keep stalling cause i keep forgetting about the friction point being so low...lol
I keep releasing the clutch and then realising that its near the floor now.... Oh well something new i guess.
My mechanic has no idea cause he didnt do anything, just changed the fluid.
So go figure....
