MY07 GT Spec B Wagon Auto - Tuned at HP-F Dyno Charts

Postby Mr White » Thu Aug 20, 2009 8:18 am

Hi Guys,

Steve and i got our cars tuned by Marty at HP-F yesterday. Wow what a difference!
First off, i would highly recommend HP-F. I felt comfortable leaving my car there,
they're a professional operation, and clearly have a lot of experience and knowledge.

The range between 2100rpm and 3000rpm has been smoothed out significantly. When i
used to hit the accelerator within this range, the car used to produce a lot of revs and not
much travel.

That has completely gone. Consequently that real spool ‘come on boost’ feeling at 3000rpm
has also gone. It feels less like a turbo car as power is delivered so smoothly and evenly
throughout the rev range. The engine feels ‘stronger’ to me.

Have a look at the torque increase up to 2650 rpm. . . . I'm very happy! :victory:

Nice gain :D

But what happened with your torque?... I thought the EJ25T's had heaps???... From the ones I've driven they certainly feel like they do :)

Also, do you have any mods installed on the car?

Nice gain, Did they offer any explanation for the aparent small peaks and troughs still evident?

Those tractive effort curves are a little misleading. That or the scaling is wrong. Dividing the power by tractive effort to get speed, 109kw and 1800N comes to a speed of 218km/h. That's more like top of 4th gear than top of 3rd gear. You could scale those tractive effort (torque) numbers up by another 40-50% I reckon if you wanted to talk 3rd gear numbers (difference between 3rd and 4th gear ratios of 1.471:1 and 1:1).

A power/revs calculation (to get torque in Nm) shows an improvement down at 1600rpm from 322Nm to 477Nm (remember, these figures will be scaled down from the on-paper crankshaft figures by the same ratio that power has come down by). That's another strange thing - the specs from Subaru put the peak torque at 3600 rpm, not down near 1600rpm and pear power at 6000rpm rather than back around 5000rpm. Really wierd

Those traces as Boxer mentions aren't particularly smooth either. You probably wouldn't notice it on the road though. Wonder if it is just a characteristic of that dyno (eg. calculation resolution)

-edit- Just noticed it's an auto. I'll re-do some of those numbers in the first paragraph
-edit 2- corrections made

 Too many stock parts! HEHEHEHEHEH

Mr Smythie's explanation was rather good on a serious note... Mind you, most of it went straight over my head :P

Good result for an otherwise stock car. A panel filter won't change peak power, just assist throttle response a teeny bit.

Given the smaller turbo on the Auto '07 GTB, that results pretty good.

Was the reflash custom retuned for your car or just basic AFR corrected by HPF?

And yeah, that tractive effort graph looks wierd. :/

This is my VTune Dyno. Interesting that it's done on the same type of machine but yet looks completely different and the scale is different. Base power was stock 08 2.5GTB (post facelift).

Vin tends to operate his dyno differently, not using Shootout mode 44 as used by most others.
