reluctance to kick back and lacking down low power..

Postby Stifull » Sat Sep 05, 2020 7:45 pm

So my Lib has been experiencing these issues for 2 days.. Had a squiz under the bonnet and discovered the oil cap had either fallen off or had forgot to put it on. Not a great deal of mess and the cap was sitting on the battery.. Could not having an oil cap effect gear change response and performance ????? it was sluggish and when you gave it some throttle it wouldn't kick back from say 5 to forth, instead it needed more throttle and then would go 5th to 3rd or even 2nd ... I have replaced the lid and disconnected the battery to reset the memory, if that may be an issue.. Anyway I guess I'll see when I go out later to pick my daughter up ... Any thoughts appreciated.. Cheers..

It might run lean if unmetered air can come in through the oil cap (through the crank case then into the manifold through the PCV valve or pre-turbo pipe).

Running a bit lean could affect other performance aspects.

All good. It seems to be back to normal..so must have just been the extra air available via the oil intake ...

Cool. It was a bit of a guess at my end, but the evidence seems to be backing the theory a bit.

It will make it run rich to compensate for unmetered air, iirc.

Its not fatal but does show up on a learning view.
