Noisy Tapet Engine noise 25T

2 cans of UEC and a stamp in the log book should fix it.

Doubt it senator by the sounds !

Then try 4 cans of UEC and 2 stamps………… they should stop the “ carbon holding the valves open”

I’m no certified mechanic but I sure can waste my breath spinning shit disagreeing with people that actually know the fix to this issue.

Mechanic advised tappets?? How well do they know Subarus? I would recommend getting a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

Ok Matt maybe he meant lifters and if so would the solution work ?

Belt some UEC in it then just drive and enjoy it. Follow the instructions I linked to in the pre tune guide.

I though mine was too noisy to be normal, but they sort of choof and tap a little anyway on idle.
GB and Bosco told me so because I asked them nicely.

However if the oil gets low, eg 1/4 left I reckon I can hear the difference at idle, so I just keep the oil on full or a wee bit over even.

I don't think upper engine cleaner will fix a noisy tappet or an injector and this should be done as part of the Subaru service anyway (from memory every service). You could just try, what the hell. It could be a noisy injector and injector cleaner MAY help. You could try and diagnose by buying a mechanic stethascope (spelling) and put it on each injector and see if one is much noisier than the other.

I had a noisy tappet (shim over bucket) on an old EJ after it was re-built, annoyed the shit out of me but never caused a problem. I think if you pop the bonnet and listen to the engine they are noisy and yes you will here tappets and all sorts of things. If it is a noticeable sound from in the cabin (tap, tap or click click) then like Matt said get a 2nd opinion from a reputable Subaru mechanic. On the OLD EJs (pre wrx heads) they had hydraulic lifters that would clog and oil additives and thinner oils would help but that doesn't apply to these motors.
