MY08 GT Spec B Exhaust and Tune

Postby Dutch54 » Sat Oct 15, 2011 1:21 pm

Hi Guys

This is my first post as a member as I only became an owner of a Subie a few months back.

The reason for my post is that Im looking at doing some minor work to my 07 Spec B in the next few months in the form of a dyno tune and full exhaust system, and Id like to get a bit of feedback on the best tuners in Sydney. Ive perused this forum a fair bit looking for information and there is some great advice though alot of the topics are aimed at the most cost effective tune. Though cost is a factor to a degree, my main priority is a tune and exhaust system that will not cause me issues a year or two down the track (ie the problems caused to a motor by it running too lean ect).

I live in Sydney south so will likely go with either Pulse Racing or MRT unless any one out there think otherwise?? Any feedback from guys who have had their Spec B's tuned at either of these tuners would be appreciated, especially if any problems arose a year or two later which may have been caused by the work done.

I had planned on getting work done at MRT as a mate had them perform an ECUTEK tune there to his Lib B4 a year or so back and he was happy with the result. Though not too long ago he required a whole engine rebuild which has made me a little skeptical if the tune was the cause of his engine failure as it had only done 150000k's.

Anyway, Thanks in advance for any assistance offered

ps: I have added this message to a few different discussion boards in an effort to get the most responses so I apologize if any of you come across it again

My advice stay away from Pulse and MRT, email a vendor call Phat GT for a price for a full exhaust and advice for a good tuner.
Many people have gone down with path with great results.

Btw what are your plans for the car? For street or looking at some track days??
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

Yeah thanks for the advice. Ill do some research and send them an email.

I do plan on doing a few track days once I get the work done which would be good to do with other GT drivers. Ill keep my eyes on the notice board on the web site for group track days

Thanks again

My advice to all is to stay well away from ECUTEK.....!!!!! Once your cars had an ECUTEK program flashed into the factory ecu, thats the only program that will talk to your ecu. Which company has the right to lock your ecu to ECUTEK software only....Went through this problem myself with ECUTEK on my 02 WRX STi (bloody MRT XB kit, crap). You can download software off the net and buy a usb cord for $150 and tune yourself or take it to a tuner who will tune for you.

Sorry its from my experience!!!!

Hmm many people here would vouch for MSR. But then seeing you are in the south his place would be pretty far from you. However he is open and honest and let you in the work shop to poke around. (most workshops kick you out which is understandable with OH&S)

He also charges half of what MRT does for a simple tune and exhaust if wanted.

Anyway, google Michael South Engineering and he uses open tune.

MRT is like E10 fuel. You just stay away from it.

Check out Tunehouse Racing in Marrickville. They've been GTG for me, Jim or Tony are always there if I need em.

Hey Lads

Just checked this thread which I posted a few months back and wasn't aware there had been a few more replys so thanks for the info. Due to coin issues I hadnt been able to get the work done as yet but the research has been ongoing as I aim to have in done soon.

And yeah on reviewing a few more threads im def gonna steer clear of pulse and MRT. I had already looked up MSR and tunehouse websites and both look like the way to go. Ive emailed Phat about some parts and he's been real helpful. I didnt think to ask him but does anyone know if its tunehouse where he sends people to?

thanks again

Phats tuner goes by the name of Scott. Has his own dyno in warehouse industrial tyre of area.
Scott tunes all of the cars phat builds, including phats own cars. Mine was a under the table cash job.
So you would have to speak to phat for more info.

Can't speak higher of Scott as a tuner. My car is running beatifully after a date with Scott.

Scott isn't just a dodgy warehouse job, just in case that's the impression you got from trent's post :P It's actually called Insight Motorsports, you can google it!

Has anyone got any feedback on West_Minst from Xtreme Racing Tuning? He does remote tunes from Barbados for what seems a reasonable price.
Started with a Gen2 Outback, then got a MY07 GT Spec.B Manual w Cat Back Exhaust and Verso Tuned, now got 2 kids and a MY07 GT Auto Wagon, Ultrex stealth back exhaust, panel filter, Whiteline Sways all round, Spec.b struts and springs and Kido-Tuned.
