Bit more boost

Postby hawks123 » Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:28 am

I've been thinking of upping the boost on my GT recently.
Nothing to drastic, as i still want to get a lot of k's out of the car and not blow it up.
Just wondering what other people have experienced in doing this.
Also does increasing the boost effect what the car drives like in 'Intelligent Mode'?
If it's broke use a cable tie!

When you get a tune 95% of tuners will turn your boost from 14.5psi (factory) to around 15.5psi.
Some might turn it up more, some less.

I'm not sure on the post face turbo's on the ej255, but the turbo's on the preface ej208 where not safe after 16psi.

When you get a tune, as well as getting the boost turned up... They will also increase your cam, valve and ignition timing, as well as your air:fuel ratio. Add these all together and you get the 10-20kw gain people expect from a tune.

"turning up the boost" is an old-school way of making turbo'd cars make more power.

these days, the stock turbo's are usually operating at their peak efficiency from the factory at the preset boost level.
and all that adding more boost does is create more heat which is poor for efficiency/ power and engine safety.

however, making the decision to use only high RON fuels and having the ECU tuned to suit is where the power is.
