looking for 5 speed auto valve body mod.

Have done a search but came up with nothing. i had found a place a while back in qld that could mod the 5 speed auto valve body for firmer shifts and the like, but have forgot who they are and cant seem to find them searching the net. Any one had there 5 speed valve body moded? if so who, where, cost, opinion.

contact phat, he knows of a place in the US that do a swap over , when i looked at it they seemed quite good, i never went through with it though but will need to do it soon

The place in the us is called ipt and charge about 750 u.s for the swapover. However I have looked into the mod they do and it's pretty much just wiring in a resistor to the shift solenoid on the valve body which gives the tcu a false reading so it can shift harder.

Also lookup a member called climber d@hexmod on legacy forums. He has come up with his own verdion of this mod which I believe is better from the reports on legacy forums.

Personally I would rather pay a local guy to do the work merely for the fact you get the support and warranty locally, and at the same time can upgrade your stall convertor for not much more.

Iv had a look at the ones from the us and and one needs the valve body. to post it over there and back will take weeks in travel not including the time to mod it and cost nearly $100 each way in postage. the over does an exchange but want $500us deposit on top of the cost until you send yours back and they start keeping your deposit the longer it takes to get it back to them. going on the time it takes to get parts from the US i would lose $150 of my deposit.

Im a mechanic so im really just after the parts for the valve body and converter if thats what they recommend and ill do it my self at work.

Mick I spoke to MV automatics in SA and they only do 4 speed and are 6-8months of even loking at the 5 speed. but i do want to keep it local.

Thats very strange. I know of two people who have had their 5 speeds done there.

Looking at your post, bring me a question, couldn't find any previous post about it.
i had a manual spec b before.
Wondering how 's the 5 speed auto sport shift gearbox like, should be the same as the sti one.
How's the gear changing speed ? Downshift mostly, delay long ?

I test drove a fg falcon xr6, the downsift time is awful. takes forever to downshift a gear.

Would the valve body mod helps lot on it ? or twin plate clutch ? <--- or is it only allow higher power on starting line ?

also gotta love the dsg on the vw, it feels like instant, dynamic while u change gear on vw.

The 5 speed auto is an ok gearbox overall. However if you found the zf auto in the fg xr6 turbo to be deficient, then I don't think any auto box will deliver. The zf is two times as good a box as the 5 speed in the liberty.

A shift kit and valve body mod will definitely improve the speed of the shift, but may not be to your liking as it does firm it up a fair bit. I haven't driven one of these but have driven various shift kitted autos in other cars.

Twin plate clutch? Are you talking about for a manual? Automatics don't use a clutch. They have a stall convertor.

And yes the dsg box is brilliant. But don't expect the auto to be anything like it lol.

Yea downshift is slow. even in manual mode it still changes up for you at red line not so much of a bad thing but it shifts quicker by itself then if you use the paddles. a firmer shift would not worry me as long as it quickens things up and the stall will help of the line.

Stall convertor will make it worse off the line

unless you're tramping the brake pedal at each stop which will not be good hehe

it wont hurt ever once and a while. as long as you dont do it repetedly and over heat the oil. i have a oil cooler to go on.
