Car acting up aince monday

Postby GTB-R » Wed Mar 16, 2011 12:09 pm

Hello all,
I've had an issue come to hand. I was driving home on Monday afternoon on the freeway with the cruise control set. Suddenly the car disengaged the cruise control.

The following warning lights came up.

Cruise control light – flashing green (cruise)

Stability control warning light – orange (stays lit)

Engine Management light – orange (stays lit)

Engine Mode [S] - flashing white (can’t be changed) double chime if I try to change it, same as if trying to move into S# mode when cold.

I continued driving home as I saw no reason to pull over & restart the car. No oil light was on, the temperature wasn't increasing at all & the car seemed to be running fine except for the glitch. At the moment Subaru Docklands wants me to take the car to the STI section next Friday for them to have a look at it.

When I finally got home that night I attempted restarting the car, all was still fine mechanically but the list above still shows.

Anyone got any ideas? Thought of pulling the battery cables off, assuming this might reset things but perhaps not.

Regards, Clive.

Yeh Clive, try the battery disconnect reset, first up and see what happens, worked for me a while ago.

if no luck go to plan B.

Thank you, did you ever figure out why the glitch occured in the first place?

Unless you have something that will read ECU error codes or knows someone who has a device that will, your best bet at finding out what the code means is to bring it into Subaru so they can read what the specific error code is.

But sometimes it comes on, and after about x6 restarts (turn off the ignition and then turn the car back on), the error goes away. If it doesn't, try the battery reset. When that fails, time to bring it into a mechanic/Subaru service to read the error code.

Thanks Jim. I have a week & two days until Subaru Docklands STi division will tack a look so I guess I'll be starting it enough times to see if it goes away on it's own.

I assume that no one has experienced this specific error before?

Car is running fine, can't fault it.

Do not remove the battery leads and let the power drain. If you do, it will be impossible to diagnose the fault.

Would it not be logged somewhere regardless of if the battery leads are disconnected or not? Seems a strange way to map an issue if it relies on the battery to retain the information.
