Custom tune is still less than the $1200-1900 he quoted... significantly less. Well under $1K, I was able to get full custom tunes for $650 if people hadn't bailed out... :P

I meant you can also have a custom tune on the EzyFlash as well if you wish - but they slug you another $800 odd on top of your $1095 Ezyflash charge. So yeah Opensource far cheaper and custom tune in most cases as standard
GTSPECB STI wrote:open source flash tune can be returned to stock map no problem, three maps is easy because he have Si-Drive (3 maps). Custom dyno tune will net you the better results than a stock generic tune but heck if the price is right abnd your happy then more power to you.

I should clarify - Ezyflash gives you 3 distinct Maps (nothing like SI Drive which is purely DBW changes (and auto trans changes in the slushbox derivative)

Ezyflash is not like SI drive in that it STORES 3 maps and only 1 is active at any time. You can still use the SI drive on any active map as per normal. But you also have the ability of flashing the ECU at will. Say have a "valet" map which limits the power and/or rev limiter no matter what the driver does with SI modes, a map for low octane fuel incase travelling outback, a OEM map for when it goes in for service  and then your custom tuned modified map?
You must be stationary with ignition on to re-flash between maps so is not done on the fly like SI mode changes

Its also a logger etc and can give live parameter measurements. I actually like the idea of the unit, but think its overpriced (especially compared to a laptop and tactrix cable plus a ECUdatascan)and am not familiar with Chiptorques tuner as opposed to other tuners out there with big reputations

Goodluck SuB4Ru - I'll be interested to see the results as I like the product

Actually the SI drive is a torque limiting table which in turn will affect how much boost you run as it command the system to try to reach that torque value so you can easily set it up as three distinct maps with effectively different boost plots . Hmm Xmas break project for me ???

But yeah would you do this..errmm nope :P

Plus they did all the tuning work on my previous lib and my bros forester so they take care of the price for me too :)

Yes OpenECU can be brought back to 100% unmodified factory.

You're still going to be paying for a 'brand name' as such, and an off-the-shelf solution is never going to be the as good as a custom OpenECU tune, so why not just get it done custom...

Ok perhaps being a bit simplistic to make it easier, but effectively input from the throttle sensor (DBW circuit) correlates to 'requested torque; which in turn is the ECU lookup table.

You still only have one 'tuned map' and requested torque table varies according to SI drive setting. Its easy to simulate I mode with throttle restriction.

I.E. a certain throttle input = certain requested torque which outputs preset boost. Therefore to limit boost in any SI mode - limit throttle input.

Hence S# and S have the same power curve - just one gives full throttle (requested torque at 2/3rds pedal and the other uses the full pedal travel)

The unit makes it easy to load stuff on the car. But using a laptop and the free tools to you, including a $169usd cable, you can have countless configurations and just load when you need it.

But at the end if the day, its up to the user. On the fly can be good.

Nah, i went soft, lol. At the time i had a 2nd car but it sold faster than expected and couldn't be without a car.

Check the TCP Auto (in FOR SALE - COMMERCIAL) and read the thread "Finally an exhaust to show you guys"

A guy just put on TCP's full exhaust on his GTB and had a tune done at chiptorque and achieved 175kw atw which i think is a really good figure.
SOLD: 263.5kw atw B4 Liberty (GT35R, 2.2 Stroker, 6spd)

NEW: Finally bought an 07 Liberty Spec B t/b STI :) and it begins....

That guy is me. I'm happy with the results.

I looked at from the aspect that there is only one open source tuner in Bris that I trust, there was one tuner that does Ecutek and then the ezyflash system.

On one hand you're paying $1k in licencing and locking your ecu into being with ECUtek forever, the other (open source tuner) had a reputation for being slow and expensive, while with the Ezyflash you do pay the 1095 for the unit, you can store multiple maps, you get the added bonuses of the security (lockdown) and valet map where no matter how hard you stop you only get 50% throttle.

I'm a big beleiver in choosing your tuner and work with what they choose, but I just don't want to touch Ecutek with a ten-foot pole, so the decision to go with Chiptorque was an easy one, particularly with the deal they offered me.
