Aftermarket Centre pipes

What do people use and recommend? I currently have Hi-Tech quads and a PHAT v2 dump pipe on its way...need the centre!

I am considering the AVO pipe purely because my car can't be off the road for a day or 2 whilst they make a custom pipe but AVO seems a bit costly.

Any other brands that can be purchased online? Phat centre pipe available?

I suggest you save your mod money by getting a centre pipe fabricated rather than buying an aftermarket one. I had mine made up in 3"s/s with a hotdog resonator in it, cost me all of $400 from memory. There is a thread with pictures I took in the post your mods section here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3687

Was it recommended you change ur stock Y Pipes or are they fine to keep? If so, that will make a custom job the way to go...

I retained by stock y pipe after discussing with my mechanic and tuner. Works just fine but sure you could have a y pipe made up as well.

What advantages did retaining the OEM Y part provide?

No advantages but the gain vs cost and effort to fabricate the y pipe make it not important...I have the same setup btw

Some muffler places really do an awful job at fabricating a Y-pipe, especially the split. Instead of cutting two pipes at an angle and welding them/using a sleeve to join them, they just crush two pipes together to form a circle. That's when retaining the OEM Y-pipe would be of benefit. Otherwise if they do good work, might as well have one made up, if only to retain your factory centre & Y-pipe in it's original state and still in one piece.

There was are Phat centre pipe made up, but only a few lucky buggers got them….. Full stainless steel mandrel bent 3", it was 2 piece, the 2.5" Y section had are 4 point flange to connect to the main centre pipe……. Very nice bit of kit.

I run are custom 3" with 2 12" hot dogs and 2.5" at the Y section, all in mild steel, its was purchased second hand from a fellow forum member, not sure about actual price new.

But I do know the centre pipe was fabricated in are few hours.

There are few JDM options, K2 makes a dual centre and single centre pipe, but these centre pipes are not cheap….. Speak to Phat regarding pricing.

Btw I think TCP just posted a cat back system in the vendor section….. Pitty no price has been set.

It seems a few people are getting 2 silencers put into their centre pipes...anybody have a single resonator and think it is too loud?

I am thinking I will go a single resonator and custom from my local exhaust shop (www.taipanxp.com.au)

I had a single resonator, then removed the pipe and had a second one welded in.

It looks like a 3" centre with a single resonator. Not sure how he plans to keep it 'near factory noise levels' with such a setup.

All depends on how tolerant you are. I'm an old geezer and have to drive kids around, and even with a resonator AND mini-muffler for the 3" centre pipe, it was still quite loud for my comfort level. So I sold it to senator, who seems to be putting up with it a lot better than I am. If I had another one custom made, I would probablyh got 2.5" this time around (with a larger mini-muffler if possible ... otherwise I'll get the Zero/Sports centre).

single resonator in centre pipe has worked well for me and no complaints about noise at all , but I am an old carnt and cant hear well anyway

I have the same mufflers, with a custom centre pipe and split... does the job...
