Hi guys, got the P0031 error code and replaced the rear O2 sensor. The light went off for about 10km then came back on :( , a tad dissapointing. I have read elsewhere that it could be the air/fuel ratio sensor. I got a price of around 550$ for this part. Has anoyone else had this problem? is there a less expensive alternative?
the car still drives well but the light is incredibly annoying (engine light + flashing cruise control light)
any help would be appreciated.

I know most ppl have replaced the front 02 sensor when they had this error code.

Do a search, there is heaps of info on the forums regarding this for eg. http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=7447&hilit=error+code

Air Fuel ratio sensor on bank 1 sensor 1. Part costs $475, Reset ECU and install cost $90. This was from Lilydale Subaru. Ring a few dealers as the price can differ.

That's the front O2 Sensor you need to replace not rear.
As adhar said ring around, you should be able to get it cheaper than that. I got mine installed at Pulse Racing in Sydney for much less.

BANK 1 Sensor 1... caused me a bit of pain. BTW i did not do the ECU reset and have done about 15,000 kms since the sensor change, no issues.

The ECU reset is to ensure that your ECU has the latest parameters for the O2 sensor settings, it's not always required as your ECU may already have the correct parameters, just a faulty part.

I've been through seven O2 sensors :P

ECU reset makes no difference imo in this instance. Isn't the reason you go through so many 02 sensors a design flaw of the dump pipe you have installed?

its either the dump pipe or your tune...maybe air fuel ratio

Sorry I didn't mean reset, I mean re-program.

Spoke to a few people and they said down pipe design has no impact whatsoever on the O2 sensor.

The past few weeks ... my car idles very rough .. oil pressure up and down .. but when i start driving it's ok ...

One day last week .. engine light came on and cruise light starts to flash ... but the car still drives fine ... so i turn the car off ... all the light went off .. but this happens pretty much every time i drives.

So over the weekend phat man scanned the car ... and i got this code ..
Error Code: P0031 ho2s - Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor.

So Phat man put the O2 sensor (front) from his car .. also gave the air flow meter quick clean ..

now everything is back to normal ... idle is normal too !!
