MY05 GT 2.0l T - How many k's should i get!

Postby as_shandy » Wed Jul 07, 2010 7:40 pm

hey guys i have a MY05 lib GT
it has had a full service history every 15,000ks with subaru
but it has now jus ticked over 200,000k's, is their any dramas i should be aware of now that the k's are getting high? and do lib's have a tendancy to pack up after a certain amount of k's?
im starting to worry wether i should hold onto it or get rid of it now that it is getting up there,
if someone could give me some advise that would be good!
thanks
andy

at 200,000 kms sure you are going to get wear &tear issues but keep that service history up mate and theres no reason your car wont last.

if you start modding it or driving it hard of course you run the gauntlet of doing damage no different from a car thats done 20,000 kms.

my initial thoughts would be besides the normal brakes and rotors, perhaps the turbo, timing chain, water pump, radiator might be on the way out but thats part of the course and would all depend upon how the car has been looked after and what materials have been used.

Judging on the amount of 300,000km+ WRX and STi's out there that still pull hard, shows you can get longetivty out of the EJ20 with regular maintenance, as well as preventative maintenance, Subaru are generally good at keeping the engine running well (mine pulls hard still with just over 175,000kms under its belt, mostly highway kms). If you want to be sure, take the car to a boxer engine specialist.

Personally I plan on keeping mine for a very long time (it'll turn into the future "family car" when I buy something else), USDM legacies report ~150,000 miles out of the stock turbo so this is something to keep an eye on; make sure you let the engine warm properly before boosting and give sufficient idle time after spirited driving to cool down the turbo and it will last a long time. I intend on doing an engine rebuilt sometime after 250,000kms, more to restore performance than accommodate mods, although you can't rule out turbo + TMIC upgrade when the stock turbine finally goes.

Get yourself a Tactrix (or similar) cable and monitor the car every so often using software like RomRaider, best way to really know the engine responds to your driving.

Change oil and fluids regularly with good quality stuff. Especially at that stage I'd over service the car. Warm car up adequately with light driving before going hard. Be sympathetic on gear changes. Do all that and the car will last you a long time.

Trim and other bits and pieces, some electronics may start wearing out, but there's not much you can do about that.

Keep the paint clean (wash regularly and claybar if it hasn't been washed regularly for a long time), keep it sealed with wax or similar.

sorry for the late reply guys..
thanks for all your input.. theres probalby somewhere on here about it but what is this tactrix cable i keep hearing about how much are they? and are they somthing a noob like myself could use, or is it more for someone who actually knows what they are doing when it comes to engines. coz some of these readings i have seen from some other peoples cars on here are rite over my head... wouldnt have a clue what it all means, but if its something sort of idiotproof i might have a look into it!
thanks again
