Direct Gas Injection - LPG Research

Hey all. Just after anyones help that knows much about getting a Lib GT 2.0Litre Turbo either put on a dedicated gas system, or a split system with LPG Injection.

I have been told by the guys at EZYgas that they have not coverted any Subaru Liberty GT's as there is not high enough demand for it, but have converted many BA Turbos and the new Ford Turbos as well without any problems or back firing.

I used to have an EL Falcon that used to back fire every 10min as it was on gas and when it back fired it would blow my whole intake into 1000 pieces.
And the guys at EZYgas said it cannot back fire now as the system has changed and the gas in now directly inected into the motor.

Anyone have any ideas or info on this?


I want to get my car converted to straight gas and have the petrol system completly removed.

I have been qouted $4250 and will be able to get $1750 back from the Gov rebate.

I think the general consensus is that LPG conversions work best on larger displacement engines (>3.0 litres)

Josh,
Go search the VIC WRX club website. A guy in Melbourne is running dual fuel (petrol & liquid injection) on his modified WRX (2ltr).

He has posted up pics and the setup is neat.

From memory, he has two maps, 1 for petrol & 1 for LPG and his tuner was able to get more power when running liquid injection.

I wouldn't be surprised. LPG can handle much higher compression ratio's than unleaded petrol. I remember CSV having a play with LPG on one of their Holden v8 based cars. The thing made quite a bit more power than the best they managed with unleaded. I don't think they went to market with any though.

LPG has a much higher octane rating the unleaded, usually a minimum of 110 RON, therefore can withstand detonation much better, leading to greater timing advances, leading to more power and USABLE power right through the rev range.

However, it does usually require a little more fuel so usage with injected systems is generally around 5-15% higher L/100km for similar power levels. (On the old vapor systems due to system inefficiencies this was closer to 30%). But at still around 60% of the cost of unleaded will still pay for itself in around 1.5-2yrs depending on kms traveled.

So on a turbocharged engine, LPG is great - just a little costly to setup the injection system properly ;)
