Hi all,

My name is ken and I was wondering is the dump pipe worth getting done or am I really wasting my time and money as indicated on the MRT article?
If it is what kind of gains would I be expecting and how much noise increase would I be expecting compared to stock, planning to install the hitech mufflers aswell?
Would you hear the noise underneath the cabin as the dump pipe is located underneath the drivers side?

Which MRT article is that? If it's such a money waster why are there so many brands offering it and most modders with a turbo get one?

i have a hks dump pipe and it is well worth the money to get one for your car ,it hasnt made the car noiser .from the dyno day we had a while back a dump it is worth around 20kw at the wheels without a retune

How do the 2L GT's go untuned with a new dump? I have heard mixed stories about ECU's being able to re-learn certain things and what not. Have heard they sometimes don't like it and you wont manage much more power/torque for some reason? But have also heard they re-learn it and love it.

Any input?

You and easygt should do a search and read through the feedback & experience for the 2.0 and 2.5 turbo owners after getting their dump pipes.

I did a search on google and MRT did an article on it and they tried every possible exhaust combination and none of them yield any significant gains.

Oh and I will get it tune aswell.

With noise would it be pretty loud with a 3inch down pipe , factorty cat back and hitech mufflers? As at the moment I got avo mufflers only and I find a bit loud as I'm getting a drone from 2000 rpm to 3000 into the cabin.

Also which cat is the better choice metal or ceramic cat? I'm getting the avo dump pipe.

Well i have done a search, it seems that the dump pipe frees up plenty of killer wasps without a tune, as. The cars seem to run quite safely without the tune also, but obviously for maximum benefits, a full exhaust and tune is what i would need.

Having a few friends with foresters which have TBE and no-tune, they have also experienced no dramas with the ECU "learning" the new exhaust differences and a simple ECU reset usually covers this.

We can sell the exhaust system separately - Its a $2600 proposition including freight. The reason we don't outwardly advertise it is there is little value in upgrading it on vehicle's with a vehicle with the standard turbo as it isn't a restriction.

We offer our power upgrade kits as they highlight what needs to be replaced and in what order of the modification process to most efficiently upgrade your car.

recived this email after enquiring a price for the MRT Turbo-Back system

That seems expensive, but i can see why:

A) Its MRT
B) a centre pipe which turns into a y-pipe is a costly piece of the system to make
C) dual mufflers are also costly
D) if its in s/s then that is where your money goes too, a mild steel system painted black/ceramic coated will do just as good a job.

The mrt article is sort of holding me back. I recently had a avo pod filter and avo muffler installed and a tune and only got 8kw gain.
A bit more torque but nothing to smile about. I been advise to do the dump pipe but don't wont to spend more money and get only a little gain.

Was wondering what gains are people getting on this modle?
I wonder if really the turbo is really the restriction and not the stock exhaust itself?

I personally wouldn't look too much into what MRT says mate.
A group of us had our cars tuned by Paul Fisher a while ago. (Paul use to work for MRT)
There's various cars (2.0ltr's, 2.5ltr's, a 3.0 ltr and a B4) all with different stages of mods.
Our wagon runs a TBE, a Hyperflow TMIC, a CAI and a tune and it's extremely reliable, has so much more torque/part throttle driveability and its an absolute pleasure to drive.
There is a heap of different threads in the "Post Your Mods" section so do a search and have a good look around.

Do you think having a dump pipe , stock mid section and hitech mufflers would be loud? How would it be compared to stock?
Trying to keep it quiet as possible.

Haven't you already got AVO muffler's installed?
If so, adding a dump pipe with the stock mid section and the AVO rear muffler's would sound pretty good I think.
I had Hitech's on my standard system and they sounded great. But when I got the dump pipe and the 3" exhaust fitted they were a little on the load side for me.
I then installed a set of STI mufflers in place of the Hitech's and was very pleased with the outcome.
When talking exhaust systems, I think it all comes down to individual taste. What one person perceives as load, the next person may be happy with.
Install a dump pipe and have the ECU re tuned, you definitely won't be disappointed.
Just my opinion anyway.

Hi Rusty,

At the moment I have got AVO mufflers but I find them a little drony at low rev. So I heard good things about the hitech, so I got one now and waiting to
install it. And I thought since I'm going to get it tuned I might aswell get the AVO top mount and AVO dump pipe install aswell. After owning a classic WRX
with a 3inch TBE which I find it loud, now I'm more cautious what I do when modifying the exhaust. I guess the only way to find out is to get it installed but it is always good to know the results before hand.
I wonder if I find it too loud for me if another muffler can be place in mid section?

Also with the cat , the AVO dump pipe comes in two different CAT what is the different between the CAT?

I'm unsure of the differences in the AVO dump pipe cats, so you'd be better off talking to AVO.
As for the rest of the exhaust, have a decent exhaust shop fabricate one for you.
I had ours made from mild steel instead of stainless and had a resonator installed in the centre pipe to help alleviate excess noise/drone.
If in the end you still find the new system a little loud (like I did ), sell the Hitech's and purchase a good second hand set of STI's.
Again, this is just my opinion.
