Yesterday while on the drive home I had learning view running, and took a few grabs from it after doing some WOT runs and just some general driving.

Are these results bad? is there something here to worry about?

_generally_ any sort of knock correction is a bad thing, means the tune isn't quite 'safe'. How bad it is, is a diffent question though.

The last run had some pretty high knock correction on high load...

I've been getting similar knock with my car since logging it over the last few weeks. It is concerning, and I'm also getting a surging feeling under heavy load in 3rd gear (3-5krpm up hill) so Im chasing that issue.

I tend to agree that any knock is not good. If you IAM is still at 1.000 then all is pretty good, its just fine knock correction and while 0 is ideal, you aren't doing any real damage just now. if you get IAM 0.3125 like I did - that means its scary shit!

Looks like you need to do some MAF tuning, got a bit of a correction wave going on there ~ 4 to -4 etc.

As for the timing that is being pulled, just remove that from the corresponding Base Timing cells and relog when your IAM goes back to 1. The reason I say Base timing and not the Max timing advance, is that it is good to have that as a correction buffer that the ECU can use.

You should defiantly consider doing this for the cells that have 3s or 4s and pretty much in any cell that more than 1.5 deg are being pulled from.

What fuel are you using, if its a 98 octain, you will need to pull timing, because if you are ever in the situation where 98 is not available you might run into some problems.

I'm not sure about all of that and don't want to start messing with stuff when I don't understandthe consequences!
i've been running it on Caltex 98 for a while..

So is this the stock tune or your own?

Sorry, the title lead me to believe that it had been tuned. Might just be a dodgy batch of fuel.

I wouldn't worry if it is stock, there is usually a margin for things like bad fuel etc.

If it keeps up you should probably switch petrol stations or fuel brand to see if that corrects it.

Hey Steve,

done any more learning view shots over the last week? wondering if you've put in fresh fuel yet and still getting the knock....

Cheers
Lee

Hey Lee,

Yea I have a few more, don't have my laptop here though... I'll post em up later tonight or tomorrow..
It seems to have stablised a little bit... although IAM did drop down to 0.6xxx

I reset the ecu, filled up with a diff brand of fuel, IAM is back at 1.0 and knock seems to be a lot better than the highish readings I was getting before...
hows yours going?

Still getting varying degrees of knock in the 1.15-1.50 and 1.90 - 4.00 ranges, haven't seen IAM drop below 1.000 lately though. That was on a tank of VPower than Back to Ultimate...

Latest results, this was on the dyno on Sunday, not a good result.

I've switched fuels over to Vpower to see if that makes any improvement, then ummm....

Mark has given me a few ideas on what to change to try and resolve the problem, so we will see how that goes..

Bugga... that looks like my log a few weeks ago... Im thinking factory tuning on the 2.0 wasn't too good... What did Mark suggest you do to help improve other than different fuel?

Drop the timing in the range where the knock is occurring and see if that helps...
