Power limit on twin-scroll turbo (on 2.0GT)

Postby hieu1976 » Sun Jan 21, 2007 3:49 pm

Hi guys,
just wondering if anyone knows what the maximum power output is on the Liberty GT 2.0L using the standard twin-scroll turbo? Has anyone with a GT done the full exhaust system (extractors, up pipe, downpipe, cat back), TMIC, CAI, fuel pump, ECU tune on the standard turbo?

I've seen an MRT dyno chart of approx. 180kw atw on the standard turbo, but I believe the MRT dyno reads higher than most.

But I've also heard from James Tan (Intuition Performance guy) that only 155kw atw is the max obtainable on the standard turbo.

Thanks! :)

Easy more than 155 standard, as most of the guys here are putting 120-140 atw standard.

Remember MRT's dyno is a hub dyno, and therefore reads higher.

you would want to think the stock twin scroll turbo could make more than 155kw at all fours as the stock wrx turbo on a 2.5 can make 170kw at all fours?

thanks for the responses guys.

burgs - i think the Legacy GT turbo has quite a small compressor wheel for better low rev responsiveness, which impedes its top end/max. power output.

I'm not sure whether it's the VF38 or TD04HLA turbo either in the manual Aus-spec Liberty GT - i think the Jap Spec 2.0L GT's have different turbos for the Auto versus Manual.

Surely there'd be some decent bolt-on turbos to replace these units. I'll do some research and let u guys know.

Ideally i'd like to run approx. 200kw atw (<= 13.0 sec quarter).. The MRT and AVO options are too expensive - both about $10K in modifications. OUCH. :?

He said 155KW atw not on all fours...

Btw, 155KW might be the max with the std turbo on an auto.

The problem with the std turbo is that it can only push about an extra pound or two boost. How efficiently it uses this will determine the max power. With a delta ecu and hyperflow rear mufflers my car puts out 150kw on the Sti dyno. My best guess would be that 165 -170 kw would be possible with all the mods mentioned.

I've got a dyno report showing 158KW but not sure what the differenc is between the whole ATW vs At the hubs is. It was done on a Dynolog Dyno in Perth.

a dyno figure is only useful with a base run as each dyno is different.

Thats why i dont put too much stock in dyno results unless there is pre mod base run on the same dyno.

Here's some useful dyno's with various different hardware comparisons for your consumption..

I'm on stock VF38, with custom FMIC, 3" DP.... they tell me I have 230whp... anyways, cars feels way better than stock.. ;-)

have fun y'all.
its a great ride.
