I'm running a K&N filter in my MY05 STi and in my previous MY00 wrx - had one problem when I over-oiled the filter - yes it did cause an air-flow meter f'up.
but once I was literally soaking the thing in oil... moderation is the key - I have a K&N pod filter for the wifes liberty - I just need to get an intake adapter made up to mount the AFM on.
speaking of while we're on the subject (sorry to hijack) is there a set size/diameter of the intake pipe that you have to keep to without requiring a retune of the ecu - i.e. in the case of the new wrx's the APS cold air intake part doesn't need an ecu remap - but they have a oversized one that does
is this the case with the libs?
Cheers,
Matt

Yea............I can now add pics....Thanks Ric
So are we sure they are a wet filter? Whats stopping me from changing to the AVO filter?

yes they are technically a 'wet' filter - but man - it's not like your rub your finger over it and it comes of drenched - your talking about a tiny film of oil that's on the outside of the filter - by k&n's definition if the inside of the filter is wet - you've over-oiled it and you need to clean it again.
I've had no problem with the K&N filters over the years - l've been running them on my cars for the last 10 years as have plenty of mates I know.
with the oz-v-jap dollar being soo crap at the moment trying to find the apexi filter for under $300 is near impossible.
I bought my K&N for $70 brand new - and the fitting/adapter will probably cost like $50 to make that 'typhoon' style intake and the box thing will be a job with some rubber and tin on a spare weekend
if you google pod filter intake tests or something similar there is minimal difference in suction between the k&n/hks/apexi/etc brands... it just comes down to bang for buck and bling...

I like K&N stuff, & have used their panel filters in other cars I have owned with no problems.
I think what everyone is trying to say, if that if you can get a dry filter (Like the Apexi one) for a good price, they would prefer that one over the oiled K&N product.

Your right mattson, i should just make the thing....... I guess the intake adapter that fits the AFM would be the hardest to find.
Dry Apexi, AVO, K&N filter.........got it

Terra,
I have one of these on my 07 GTB and no issues to report. as with all pods the intake noise is sometimes inappropriate but also satisfying at other times.
I have only cleaned it once and oiled very lightly, again no issues.
I do not remember exactly which web site I purchased from but it was US based as I had the same trouble finding a local supplier.
cheers
josh

Intake noise is always good to here............
Could the filter be changed to the Apexi cone? Or have they manafactured there own design?

like most things it's probably a proprietary diameter around the bottom of the filter...
like APS have K&N make a filter with a diameter only available through them so if you want a new filter for your APS cold air intake you have to go back to APS... (well at least that's the way it was when I had a APS intake)

Thanks every one for your input......I have now placed my order from the U.S.A. (f**k our shit dollar) and should be here early next week. (I hope)
When you say a tune what are you talking? Dyno ECU tune or something?
I have heard that the AFM will adjust its self after some driving.
What sort of trouble should i look out for after install and test drive?
