Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a better automatic transmission fluid?

My car is running Transmac J (Which I believe is a castrol product made for Subaru) but I'm looking for something a little better

Castrol have a product called Transmac Z, that I know a few servicing places have recomended. Link to Transmac Z specs below:

After having a few mates that have had issues with various fluid types (EG - Polo GTI having a gear box recall as it cannot use fully synthetic fluid - & it came with fully synthetic!), I want to make sure that any change is going to be a safe one.

Just for info, Subaru now no longer uses Transmac J... They now use Transmac E, which from what I can work out, looks like it's infact a lower temperature fluid... Can anyone shed some more light on this...?

For info, I've e-mail Castrol asking them what would be the best product (Fingers cross they don't come back & say "whatever Subaru offer" ).

Will be sure to post their reply once it has been received

i remeber reading onozlib somewhere, guys refering to trans / diff oil as smurf blood, cause of the blue colour, i just can remember the name of the product..... sorry matt doesn't help much, but trying search smurf blood on ozlib.....

I replaced my transmission fluid in my foz and 'smoothed' it up a lot, will check at home for the brand, can't for the life of me remember what it was at the moment.

Was put onto it by one of the local Canberra foz drivers that was pulling upwards of 175 atw and had the upgraded solenoids etc, he did a fair amount of research into products as well.

I would definitely not use the Transmaz Z product in your application -
use of this product in the Subaru Liberty would only be suitable in the
4-speed automatic models.

I have attached a copy of the Technical Data Sheet covering Trasnmax E
for your further information. The product itself is only available in
20 litre and larger pack sizes.

I've e-mailed them back to confirm if this is superior to the Transmac J that most of us will be using & also to confirm if this is now what Subaru is using - Which is what they advised me.

From my understanding you HAVE to use the Subaru/Castrol stuff.
