I am patiently waiting for my 04 GT wagon to arrive from over in NSW. While I wait though it has given me a chance to search though the million and one threads on exhausts.

I know its an auto (my first ever!) but I love the sound of the Fujitsubo. The only place I've found it is on Japanparts.com but due to our exchange rate its $2500, which is rather a lot. Given I'm only looking at catback I was looking to pay sort of half that amount (or less).

Is there anything similar for that sort of cash, that is easy to source, or do I need to get a custom job that is a bit hit and miss on the sound.

Seems like a lot of people here recommend the HiTech exhausts...

I had HiTech on my 04 GT.

Started with cat-back, then the middle section, then the dump pipe.

MASSIVE difference with fitting the dump pipe, highly reccomend the Phat dumps, as do a lot of other people.

A good custom job should be exactly the opposite. Rather than getting whatever sound comes "off the shelf" (which may be completely different in real life compared to what you heard on the Internet), your exhaust guy should work with you until you get exactly the sound you want.

Yup. A good exhaust shop should be taking off one of your mufflers and then hold a few potential choices up in its place so you can listen to them. But there are quite a few good aftermarket universal mufflers that will produce the note you're after. And a good custom job will end up half the price of the nearest brand name exhaust.

It all comes down to your budget and what sort of sound/performance/noise level/look you're trying to achieve.

If you don't like anything.. just wait till the dollar is better an get the fuji's from japa!

hey guys if you can help me out with this i have a Liberty GT MY04

Budget: $700 or a lil more
Performance: mild upgrade
Sound: more towards the wrx/sti rumble sound
noise level: mid to high
Look: stealth to low profile

can ya help in recommending an exhaust
and i heard through a mate that ppl get there stock exhaust modified to make such sound but dont know about any performance benefits for around 500

For that sort of money, you'd be looking at something like second hand hi-tech (mufflers only) or phat mufflers, not sure about how much change you'll get to be able to buy anyhting other than mufflers.

as for the sound, you'd be hard pressed to get the wrx/sti rumble out of your car, being the 2.0T it has equal length headers which eliminates the boxer rumble.

$700 ish isn't a great deal when you've got 2 mufflers involved... & doing mufflers only (Or catback) will give you a very minimal, if any performance gain IMO.

The Liberty's running the EJ20T just don't get the boxer rumble... But if you do want it, a set of unequal headers should give it to you... But to my knowledge, no one in Aus has done this.

yeh true, it isnt much cash but things are on a budget at the moment
lots comming up rego wedding wife the list goes on

haha

but i still love the car so she needs some attention as well even if it means being a tight ass
