Stock internals: max kw atw?

Hey all,

I sold my B4 liberty and am now regretting it and want to start over with an 05/06 Sti Lib (manual).

2 questions:

At what power will the 5spd box have issues?

At what power will the internals need attention?

I plan on doing tbe, cai, tune, avo450, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler at once have been told that it should be around 240kw atw which i believe is the limit of the internals and gearbox?

Having never pushed that sort of power (highest I have had in a Subaru was 200kw ATW in a MY01 Forester)

I would be highly skeptical that stock GT internals would hold 240kw ATW for any length of time, that is a 70-80% increase over stock!

I am sure that some of the guys here that have done bottom end upgrades will be able to shed more light, but it seems over ambitious for me (unless you like rebuilding your engine frequently ;) )

I completely agree.

I know someone who had 242kw atw in his 5 spd manual b4 liberty and killed his 3rd gear with hard driving, but it did last a while to be honest. I presume the box is similar with a few little tweaks since its 5 years newer.

I am suprised this question has never been asked before, i have searched on a few liberty forums but noone seems to talk about the engine/gearbox issues.

hi there

where the aus delivered b4's fitted with forged pistons??? something about earlier models pinging to much

i am sure there a few ej25t here running very close to that figure at the wheels with unopened engines, but not running the avo turbo

as stated before can be done, but expect further down the track to get the internals worked to have a every day driver.

Hey, yeah the b4's have forged internals and ping from factory, lol.

My B4 and the car i talked about above both had single turbo conversions and 2.2L stroker kits put in them so we got past that problem.

I was looking at a 2.5 but i think i wld rather spend the difference on price on modding the 2L.

Yeah, they have forged pistons, semi-closed decks and 550cc STI pinktop injectors...just a pity about the crap twin-turbo setup.

Only the last models come with forged pistons and semi-closed decks (due to the detonation issues!)

Darren,

Buy a WRX STI (my02+) You already Get Brembo's, 6 speed, Awesome chassis. You would be silly not too.

Dans B4 just got a 2.5ltr in it, but lasted 1 day and now the big end is stuffed.

hey evil, lol, ur everywhere!

Are you serious bout Dan's? He must be ready to rage! Liberty > Wrx interior/class.

I'm not going as nuts this time, staying with a decent cruiser with performance to shut v8's up and thats bout it. The guy who bght my car got a retune and now has 273.5kw atw, lol.

How do you plan to get around the twin scroll set up by running an avo450?

I'm thinking of doing the exact same mods to my 05 Gt but running a twin scroll turbo instead; well that's if you don't buy my car...:)
