GT tuned by STI - what does your airbag check say?

Postby Boognish » Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:30 pm

Weird question I know…

I’m trying to compare a GT with a tbSTI - prefacelift 2.0l version - but it’s hard without others to compare it to.

The Subaru Aus Takata vehicle check website says: “2.0 Liberty Turbo Tuned B”

Is that for a regular GT? A GT - specB? A tuned by STI?

Thanks in advance.

Dude I genuinely have. My car has all the STI bits n bobs, was sold to me as an STI. Headlining, badges, rims, brakes, sway bars, etc etc. But I want to be sure before I sell it as such. I was also informed of a type of “sample STI” which had everything the other tbSTI cars have (and I think they said it was actually a part of the 300 run) but it wasn’t allowed to be named an STI on the books.

I’ve been ripped off by people in a BIG way before, and also have been sold shit that was NOT what I was told it was. I DO NOT want to do the same to the next person.

Iirc its in the the VIN, meaning provenance is not a grey area.
Eg a “sample”, non edition GT with all the tbSTi bits will still not be a true TbSTi, because this will not be reflected by the VIN.

Not that it matters overall, not really monetarily, since specification, mileage and condition probably has somewhat more bearing on price than the tbSTi-ness, given the age of these cars…

It does matter for some related parts though, eg the preface tbSTi auto box is in some way specific to that model’s tcu, meaning a plug n play replacement requires the matching box code, according to member Weaslebee…

As such the official list of tbSTi specific parts runs to around 30 items!
I’ve seen the list, Steve Siladi aka Sharpie may still have a copy.

From a very quick search:

You may have searched, but knowing what to search for, and how to search is the key :P

Put up your vin if still in doubt.
