04 Liberty Wagon low RPM hesitation

Postby dansv8 » Mon Jul 10, 2017 9:59 pm

Hi guys,

I have an 04 GT wagon 2.0, hads it for a few weeks now, have noticed it seems very hesitant at low RPM / high throttle, and have even had it backfire once now to.

Normally id say... ok time for plugs leads or injector clean ect but wandering if this is common ect and what else it could be ?

cheers

Bit of an update....

Fuel pump, fuel filters and plugs have all been done aswell as a service and the issue is as bad as ever.
I have had it checked for codes, live logged and been told every sensor is reading 100% fine and its likely coil packs.
after already spending over $1000 on "fixing" the issue im a little concerned on spending another $1000 on a "maybe" fix.

the issue is like this.

Driving when cold, initially car runs great for 20-30 seconds, then when going to accelerate car is flat, put accelerator down say 30% and it will barely move, occasioanl miss then backfire then the second it starts to hit boost no issues at all.

If i drive the car around in traffic, it plays up with this stuttering and occasional misfire / backfire
If im under medium load going up a hill, it dies misses (doesnt backfire) looses speed then if i put my foot down further it hits boost and totally clears up.
If i drive it prety hard most the time it run 95% fine

Im just not convinced this is a coil pack issue.

Please if anyone has anymore advice it would be great, im tired of throwing $130-$150 an hour labor at mechanics

cheers

Log the avcs vvt angles with tactrix or btssm at 1500-1700rpm for a few minutes and during freeway cruise.
The angles should match fairly closely between respective banks, not oscillate wildly on one side before giving up entirely.
Read my tune FAQ link in my signature.

It's a fairly EJ specific fault, but easily fixed. Read all about it here:
https://www.google.com.au/search?biw=32 ... 8CdKOQ49o4

....
Vagcom & RR is just fine for the logging, grab a LV whilst you're at it :)
Info here:

...
My car had the issue but as I mentioned in the tune FAQ post, I had backfire under boost when the vac hose popped off the pass side of the inlet mani... so an inlet/boost side (post turbo) and zorst leak check is always a good idea.
I have a leak tester if your local.

Thanks Benny,

I jsut went for a quick dirve and logged the ACVS exhaust / inlet and watched the graph on rom raider and it seems the inlet and exhaust are pretty in sync (though at idle they are going a little arradic)

The passenger side vac hose that goes to the fuel line area was actually off (for who knows how long) and i reconnected it a few weeks ago.

I should also say the car smells like burning rubber after its been playing up aswell
Also the cruise control comes on but will not activate, and after about 20 mins of solid driving the cruise light is continually blinking

Maybe its times for a 4th set of eyes to look at it !

You're looking for L&R angles respectively being in sync.
Post your logs here via eg Dropbox or Wetransfer.

Car smells? That's all the oil on the block, a busted cv boot, or rear main seal imho.

Thanks mate,

the only log i have is the one i did last night using rom raider and its logged to an excel file,
I think i need to get learning view and set that up on my laptop and relog.

Unless you can understand the excel log ?

Cheer again

Long time since i replied sorry,

cars spent 3 days with the Suby performance specialists, who dicked around for ages and werent able to pin anything.
All AVCS data is reading correctly, all sensors are reading correctly.

They believe it maybe injector or ECU related (ie ECU is part failing)

This is another quick run on symptons....

When stone cold, runs great, after about a minute, starts to stutter, miss, backfire, trying to accelerate is met with missing backfiring and the general unwant of the car to move
As it warms up the symptons get far better and at times its almost un-noticeable
Under boost it is 100% fine every time

I am wandering maybe it is ecu, or an injector, or maybe a sensor that is inactuve under boost ? i dont know enough about the way these suby tunes work but i know under WOT / PE ? boost enrichment and LS1 will only read from a few sensor and will go back to tune data as opposed to learned trim data

anyone have any other ideas, have a pair of coils coming to try, hoping i can finid some use injectors somewhere (even just 2) to try one bank at a time.

Cheers guys

We'd need to see a log to make an informed opinion really.
Read my tune FAQ, that covers everything you need to know to not waste any more time or money.
Pm me if you need pointers as forum notifications seem to be down atm...

I have the exact same problem with my Lib, it has spent hours at the mechanic and they have no idea what's wrong with it.
Did you end up getting the problem fixed??
