help me get 150kw-180kw please

Postby nicko » Thu Jan 21, 2016 4:12 pm

Hi all I have a stock gen4 04 gt wagon in auto.

Anyone willing to let me know what mods need to be done? I want to buy everything first. And if you have any parts for sale that might fit and help me get to 180kw new or used..? Just let me know.

Thanks for any info in advance.

I was searching but getting confused so much info but because I have a twin scroll vf38 i got headache lol and gave up.

I was planing this..
-td05 big 16g <-- would that bolt right in my car???
-sti injectors 565cc
-walbro fuel pump
-pod in guard
-tbe
-transmission cooler
-tune
I don't want to push over 200kw because its a auto

Can someone list what parts i need to buy to make the wagon a bit more alive? with turbo upgrade or without its okay.

P.S If anyone has parts for sale or is looking to upgrade the set up they have & want to sell the set up they have that will bolt up to my wagon let me know

ThrottleHappy tune, Kobe 265 pump, new bucket filter (Kobe) and maybe a 3" turbo back exhaust.
You'll need a dump specific to the prefl ts turbo iirc...

Pump isn't definately needed but worth doing for peace of mind.

Td05-16g won't bolt up to these cars, the Legacy's use different flanges so a new downpipe uppipe and headers would be needed for the swap.
The injectors in these are somewhere between 520-565 from memory, depending on the model year so new ones aren't needed for that power level

Mine got 168kw from just a downpipe decat and a 3-port boost control solenoid with it running less than 16psi. Thats a vf45 with a manual so not sure if your setup will give a few less. Have now done a silicone turbo inlet and silicone after MAF pipe and that according to romraider logging is just under 180kw now with it closer to 17psi but haven't had a final retune from Matt to make sure everything is safe.

Stock injectors are fine.
Stock intake is fine.
TBE. - get a dump flange ( http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turbo-Dump-D ... SwYGFUrhcd ) and get a dump pipe made up with a high flow cat.
Cat back - heaps of options.
http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/kinug ... oll-1.aspx Get this turbo.
get onto Jackson - viewtopic.php?f=68&t=20888 (Kobe Motorsport) and get a fuel pump, silicon inlet, and silicone throttle body hose.
Get a three port boost control solenoid (basically any will do).
Get a fuel pressure regulator and up the pressure.
Get a tune from matt.

This will take you up around 200kw on 98, pretty easy and straight forward.
In order:
Dump+Tune first - this will get you a heap of gains.

... everything else at the same time, easier to install.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yeah true the stock injectors are close enough 480cc or 520cc... The best next upgrade will be 650cc if needed later in life.

That sounds good 160kw-180kw is perfect for now & thanks so much

So decat the down pipe, Silicone turbo hose + maf hose, Cai in-box, Fuel pump, 3 port boost control & Boost gauge + Matt lol who is Matt & how do I get in contact with him once I get all the mods done.

Can you explain which cat to decat please

Diagram attached with 1,2,3 & 4

1. Do I punch this cat out?

2. Then add a 100cpi hi flow cat OR can I punch this one out also??

3. Hotdog OR cut and add straight pipe

4. Is it true the 04 lib don't have a cat on the up pipe? if it does I'll gut that one out too

^^have I gone to far? lol so just punch the no:1 cat out on the diagram and leave the rest.

I will just copy your set up Andy if you don't mind.

Hi nicko
Have you read my post?
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=26021
I have the same auto gt lib wagon with the same power goal.

If you definitely want 180kw atw then e85 is the only way to get there with the td04hla-20t turbo on an auto.

This is on the GotitRex dyno and equated to 101mph.

Perhaps its better for people to start stating their qtr mile mph goals instead (assuming they have a qtr mile strip available to them) of dyno kw atw expectations to eliminate optimistic and pessimistic dyno variations.

Maybe my mph suggests more like 200kwatw but this is the problem with aiming for a dyno number. If you were to go on the gotitrex dyno then you'll need to replicate my setup for 180 atw.

Otherwise if you are happy with a little less than 180 then whats been outlined by others will get you there on 98.

What you have labelled as 3 isn't a cat. Yours will have a cat in the uppipe, only the facelift ones came without so worth getting rid of that. So you'll want to get rid of 1,2,4. Its pretty easy to get the downpipe off if you split it at the join in the middle. From there you'll be able to see both cats. I used a hole saw on a drill to get most of it out since its harder and thicker than I was expecting. Or just get a proper downpipe made up, should give slightly better performance over just a decat. I've just left mine with no cats, just the enlarged chambers where they used to be, smells a bit like a boat when cold though

If going for a kinugawa drop in jumping up to the 20t will give that little bit extra you'll need

Thanks for the the hole saw tip ;) I'll stick with the stock turbo for now.

I just want to know would it be safe to drive the car for 40km doing highway speeds to my tuner?

I'm going to decat all 3 cats. Replacing to silicone hoses from Turbo-Maf-Pod, The pod filter will be in the guard with custom box cover ( I bought a 05 wrx maf adaptor today and put a apexi pod on it..I like the sound), Walbro fuel pump + add the 3port boost control once I arrive to the tuner.
You think it will be fine if I drive like a granny no boost.. Or should I just put it on a tow truck? I have a shifty way to get a free tow truck anywhere in AUS.. I always do it if I'm to drunk to drive lol

BTW Would the decat or hoses trigger the engine light to come on??

Thanks for all your time, Cheers Nick

The only thing that may cause trouble for driving to the tuner is the pod filter since the MAF scalings may be different. If the change is less than 15% then the ecu can make changes to adjust for it, if more then tou run the risk of running lean/rich.

Intake pipe and decat shouldn't give any problems if staying off boost. Some Legacy's do have problems when decatting, maybe only US ones? Mine didn't, thats only for the downpipe though, may be a different story for the uppipe.

Yeah no problems I will just get it towed to the tuner. And I will update this as I go ahead. I'm ordering all the parts now so will post results once completed.

Check the 3rd post reply. Is it true about the up pipe cat I was reading and came across this. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=27468

Could very well be cattless, not hard to get under there and check. Makes sense really, upipe cats would be hugely expensive for twinscroll since you'd need two of them for the twin pipes.

Twin scroll uppipe does not have a cat

Vf38 / td04h twin scroll won't get you a true 180awkw unless you're on e85.

I would do this:

Kinugawa td04h-19t twin scroll
Custom dump pipe with 100 cel cat
Stock cat back.
3 port boost controller
Dw65c / Kobe 265
Tune (kido)

If you have access to e85, upgrade injectors and run that

The only thing I would add to that is a silicone inlet and throttle body. Then it's perfect. You'll find it it is raspy at high load because you're at the limit of the stock mufflers. At that point you can do the cat back if you want.
