It turns out there was a bad connection inside the pump module. Where the blue and black wires (power and earth) connect to the housing in the back of the main plug there was heaps of resistance. Fixed it up, put back in and it is happy as a pig in poo!

Which explains why when I pulled the module out to replace the fuel pump, stripped down, replaced pump and reinstalled it all, it worked again briefly.
Similar but no the same problem as liberty wagon had.

My problem ended up being the fuel pump housing side of the plug. The little positive terminal had completly eroded and was stuck in the plug of the vehicle loom.
It can be hard to figure out if you don't know what you are looking for. Sounds like you may have a similar problem as when you push the plug in, it may be reconnecting the terminal to the housing temporarily.
I ended up purchasing a new housing and flicked the little terminal out of the plug and gave it a really good clean with contact cleaner.
No problems ever since.

Glad you got to the bottom of it mate :)

Thanks, me too. Although a small problem, finding it can be all consuming.
I think I sprouted a few grey hairs on this one!

Has Boostbus caused a jinx?

Tonight got a call from Junior (No.2 Son).
The car is broke. MY09 2.5i Wagon.
Stopped on the way home.

When I got there (Dad to the rescue) I could not hear the fuel pump prime when trying to start the car?
Out with the back seat squab.
Use the black handled screw driver from the spare wheel change kit and removed the inspection cover.
Yes, fuel pump not priming.

Go home and get some tools and multimeter.
There is power at the plug.
Reconnect plug, fuel pump primes. Car starts. Tell Junior to go home by the straightest route, Go home, Go directly to Home, do not pass McDonalds, do not collect a snack.
He gets 400 metres and the car dies again.
Mr MultiMeter tells us that the electrical circuit to the pump is open circuit inside the fuel pump inside the tank.

Junior filled the car with fuel yesterday and the tank is too full to remove the pump on the side of the road.
Tow Truck time.

Tomorrow we drain some fuel and remove the pump.
Then we might find out which Gremlin that Mr Boostbus has jinxed us with LOL.
More tomorrow!

Thanks for the offer.

Well, it was finally tracked down to an intermittent open circuit within the fuel pump.
It was a new fuel pump too! Only been installed Early October?
It was a PSi unit from Performance Shop International through the forum here?

We could not locate the source of the open circuit.
The pump assy would go back into the car and run for a minute or two, then start to sound "off" then stop.
The pump assy was showing open-circuit at the main connector.

We would pull it out again, check everything out, Pump Sub-Harness and Pump, all seemed okay.
After the third removal and checking we thought we found a bad connection at the pump.
A continuity check of the circuit was being interrupted by wiggling the plug connector at the pump.
We thought that we had found it this time - finally.

We rang up Suttons and ordered a new sub-harness.
We cut the plug off and cripped on some spaged terminal connectors to use until the new sub harness comes up from Melbourne.
We put the pump assy back in the car and,,,,,,it ran for a minute or two and then stopped.....didn't it?

This time we took the pump assy out of the car, and this time found that the pump has now stayed open circuit.
Definitely the pump.
Definitely the new pump.
Definitely the new PSi E85 compatible pump.
Was continually having an intermittent open-circuit
Has finally gone completely open circuit.

We put the original pump (the one before the E85 pump) temporarily while we take up Hardware Bob's offer.
We will fit Bob's pump and the new replacement sub-harness when we get everything together.

Strange thing is, I am running a PSi pump in my 3.0R-B and it has been working fine since March?

I would definitely be having a really good look at the fuel pump housing side of the electrical connector. I would suspect that the the fuel pump positive pin may be the culprit...

Boy, If I had a known that HardwareBob was offering another PSI pump I may have thought twice? LOL
I hope that I am not in store for another "Dad, the car's broken" telephone call!

By the way, the failed PSI pump that died last Friday, has decided to close its open circuit.
Am I prepared to use it again "NFW" - No Fecking Way
