Postby stocko » Fri Sep 18, 2015 4:29 pm

Hey guys so anyway last week I asked you fellas bout them strange noises coming from my diff you told me to get a second opinion took it to a subi workshop and boom turns out it's the gearbox. The guy reckons it could be bearings but it could be something worse so he suggested I look at a better gearbox and left it up to me to sort out. So lads what are my options and what kind of price am I looking at for all this

If It's a manual, I have one for sale with a HD clutch! :) - $1000 and it includes spec b pedals too!

Mine was 2.3k with no flywheel - if you can find one second hand personal sale they go for about 3k give or take - bit more from an importer.
For a full conversion you will need
* flywheel
* clutch (Might as well get a HD)
* starter motor
* gearbox (obviously)
* gearbox mount (6MT is larger and lower than the 5sp - I recommend getting a group N mount)
* driveshaft (or an auto driveshaft - same length)
* R180 rear diff
* R180 suitable rear driveshafts
* shifter
* shifter boot (redlinegoods will do you one, get a new handbrake boot, console cover and steeringwheel recover while you are there)
* 5.1 L of 75W90 synthetic gearbox oil for the gearbox and diffs

Note that the 6MT ratios are not all the same - STi ratios are shorter, and ideally you want to get all your gear from a donor liberty. In fact - if you're looking to DIY the conversion, buying a 6MT liberty write off would be ideal - but you need the space, the tools, the time, the ability and the inclination. Also note that the 6MT in a WRX or a 5th gen liberty is not an STi based 6MT like a gen4, they are not stronger, they just have an extra cog.

If you know what you are doing and you can get the car high enough to get the gearbox out safely, you could do the swap in a day pretty easily. Obviously much eaiser on a hoist with a gearbox jack.

If you want a shortish term fix, I have decided to sell all the gearbox bits seperately - you can have the gearbox for $500

If you get the six speed out of the 3.0rb thingo you won't need to change the diff. If you get the six speed from the GT you will need to change to a 3.54 rear.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.
