OBD Scanning

Postby suff » Sat Jul 26, 2008 6:55 pm

Hi Guys

I have been getting a flashing CRUISE light on and off recently (once a day, intermittently)

So thinking that its most likely an O2 Sensor or AFM I invested in an OBD scanner today (JayCar special)

When I run the ODB logger, its coming up with no fault codes, .. I thought the ECU would hold information about past faults? Or do I have to run the scanner with the cruise light flashing to find out what the fault is?

Cheers guys

sorry, not the scanner, the actual ECU..

ie car hasnt had "flashing" cruise light for a couple of days.. still very unresponsive to drive though.. Running OBD Scan shows no faults?

think I might just replace the O2 sensors anyway.. for the $60 they are worth each, it cant hurt..

any thoughts?

It's worth doing it.

On mine, it blinked once, turned the car off and then on, then it disappeared.

I went to Subaru and they could diagnose that the sensor was gone though. (it was the second one they have replaced)

Maybe yours is intermittent - not bad enough to register on the ECU but enough to malfunction?

well try this for size..

when the car is stone cold, if I give it a squirt, it pulls brilliantly.. but after that, or when its warm, it feels like the timing is off, its very sluggish, like I have a trailer attached!

this in addition to the flashing cruise light has led me to start looking at sensors (either O2, AFM or Knock.. )

Open to any other ideas if people have them!

Almost..

Panel Filter + Mufflers are the only performance mods.. lots of suspension / braking bits

I have a few bits and pieces sitting in the garage waiting to be installed (exhaust, FMIC, Pulley kit) but I want to get the car running properly before installing these...

On a side note, the cruise light flashed again this morning, so I ran the OBD scanner again, and still no fault codes.. despite the cruise light blinking away!

I think you need a better OBD scanner.

Phat connects his to mine all the time and gives him all diagnosis and fault codes.

You may need to return it. Error codes will definitely come up if your engine light is flashing.

sounds like the 02 sensor to me ... and the cold start function is getting funny readings when warm.

Same, thinking along the lines of the preheat..

I just ordered two new 02 sensors, will be interesting to see the end result
